Robyn Louw exits Sporting Post - silence
7 years 1 month ago
I was at the Sales last week and heard the news that South Africa's foremost horseracing journalist, Robyn Louw has left the Sporting Post and will be heading back to England soon.
A huge blow for unbiased horseracing media, and I am surprised this news has not been reported in any racing media (least of all the SP), despite it being bandied around at the Sales.
While Racing's "Deep State" (Phumelela, the RA and the NHA) will be happy, most horseracing stakeholders and enthusiasts will be saddened at her departure.
Her contribution to horseracing, her passion for horse and rider, her informative insight and fearless exposure of the truth will be sorely missed by the (largely silent) majority.
Wish Ms. Louw well in the future and hope her talents are not lost to the horseracing industry, wherever that may be..

I'm not sure that your info is correct Urbanite? I see she is still active on SP. I also have no doubt that SP would have given her a massive send off, she is by far the most popular and talented scribe that they have.

I doubt that my info is incorrect, Over the Air, it seemed to be common knowledge at the Sales.
I am just astounded that no mention has been made of it anywhere.

I would be shocked if this is true. I can understand her leaving if she were emigrating, but for her to leave without a send off from SP would be unforgivable. Robyn Louw has done wonderful things to expose the rot in racing and she deserves much praise for her contribution. She has often been a brave lone voice in the wilderness, and I for one will be much saddened by her departure if this is true.
Who could ever forget her article on the fraudulent Jockeys "International" and that fool Wainstein huffing and puffing when exposed as the liar he was, and threatening all sorts of sanction. Well she got proven right didn't she? If this is true, we as an industry will much the poorer for her departure.

Can't be sure but I think I heard this song playing loudly at The White house and Turffontein Racecourse this morning- wonder if it was a dedication to Robyn
Thorn in my side.
You know that's all you ever were.
A bundle of lies.
You know that's all that it was worth
I should have known better
But I trusted you at first.
I should have known better
But I got what I deserved
To run away from you
Was all that I could do.
To run away from you
Was all that I could do.
Thorn in my side.
You know that's all you'll ever be.
So don't think you know better
'Cause that's what you mean to me
I was feeling complicated.
I was feeling low.
Now everytime I think of you
I shiver to the bone
Songwriters: Annie Lennox / David Allan Stewart

Robyn Louw's article on the quarantine station at Kenilworth was a perfectly written narrative of what transpires at a quarantine station.
I hope the NHRA employes Robyn.

The article that sticks with me is when Pocket Power was “pulled” in a sprint to save the weight for his first Met. (In those days the Met was a conditions race). She said she even received death threats for that article.

true fact. Big loss to us in SAF. But until racing operates as a meritocracy, we will keep on losing the good ones...to the detriment of the whole. Thank you Robyn for all you have done for racing here. It is appreciated. May the (horse) be with you.
