Pick 6 Carryovers ?
7 years 1 month ago
From Greyville last week Friday up to the Vaal yesterday R6,588,246 of the Pick 6 was a carryover.
From the 11th to the 14th May R1,064,689 is used as carryovers to the various meetings.
Where is the remaining R5,523,557 going, July Day?
No wonder more people play the lottery as whatever is carried over goes straight into the next pool.

this idea of carryovers being split up , is the biggest hogwash that the racing authorities have concocted and dangled as carrots for us to chew on.
Previously if there was a carryover in PE ,THE POOL WAS ENTIRELY carried over to a PE MEETING.
And this was fair because what if I only play PE racing ,then why mustn't I be given that full opportunity to win a massive pool at a centre where I contributed ....
I don't mind if they pooled the carryovers to a big meeting but that carryover pool must be in the centre that generated that carryover and that's the issue.
Our operators have lost the trick of what a hype a 20 million pool would do for racing,
then againthey may also fear that the computer sysytem will fail them on the day and that might be part of their warped thinking...the last point was a toungue in cheek response.

The products I am working on will create very large but completely winnable pools for racing and will give each punter the best run for their money. It will make a very positive impact on the promotion and expansion of racing if it were to be given a chance as it addresses most of the concerns and problems that have been raised on this site by knowledgeable and well meaning supporters of racing. Racing is unfortunately not a priority for most operators but where it is, like Hong Kong, it is a thriving business with a great future.

TAB MEDIA RELEASE
SUBJECT: 18 TAB Pick 6 carryovers
DATE: Wednesday 9 May 2018
RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming
TAB customers can get ready for a Pick 6 carryover bonanza with 18 TAB Pick 6 pools being boosted by carryovers totalling nearly R6 million over the next three weeks.
The Daisy Guineas fixture at Greyville last Friday night and the Champions Day extravaganza at Turffontein the next day produced some grand racing and several stunning upsets, resulting in only a percentage of both Pick 6 pools being won.
TAB has R5 864 689 in the Pick6 carryover kitty as of 6 May and Pick 6 players who got it wrong at Greyville and Turffontein will have a host of opportunities to win back their money and much more in inflated Pick 6 pools starting this Friday.
TAB has allocated the bulk of the carryover money to Pick 6 pools at selected major meetings, including R1-million carryovers to the Tsogo Sun fixture at Scottsville on Saturday 26 May and the Daily News 2000 meeting at Greyville a week later.

I must agree. I would rather have one bumper Pick 6 pool instead of the split like they are doing it now. All they are doing is covering the betting tax with the carryover amount.
I suppose there problem is that so few people place bets on horses these days that they wouldn't many more playing into the pools even with a massive carryover to start.

You are right Shrek, pools cannot grow when it's the same group betting into them all the time. Racing needs new players and lots of them. The format (Pick 6) on offer is not designed for heavy lifting as a player puller as it's tough to win and expensive if wanting to play a competitive bet. Big wins are rare and seldom within reach of the smaller punter which is the ranks from which real growth can come from with a more progressive format.
