Unai Emery is Arsenal new coach

Arsenal are set to appoint Unai Emery as their new manager.

Manchester City assistant manager and former Gunners captain Mikel Arteta was strong favourite to succeed Arsene Wenger.

Emery emerged as the unanimous choice following a recruitment process in which all candidates were spoken to.

The 46-year-old Spaniard is available afterleaving Paris St-Germain where he won one Ligue 1 title and four domestic cups in two seasons in charge.

Previously he guided Sevilla to three consecutive Europa League triumphs between 2014 and 2016.

Emery announced last month he would leave PSG when his contract expired at the end of the season. He was replaced by former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel, who had also been linked with the Arsenal job.

Emery's English is not completely fluent but the language barrier is not expected to be a problem.

An announcement and news conference are expected later this week.

The recruitment process was led by Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis, head of football relations Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.

Wenger, 68, left the Gunners at the end of season after 22 years in charge, during which he won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups, including two Doubles.

Very few Arsenal players playing in the WC which will help him as the players will be back for training at the end of June. Good appointment, just hope that he can persuade a few of his former players at PSG to join him at Arsenal.

Couldn't really achieve anything significant with the funds available at PSG....

Probably have to generate funds by clearing out driftwood - if anybody wants them- defence/midfield -chambers/holding/mustafi et-al. contentious but think ramsey is overrated.

English seems to be a challenge for Emery but there are only about two Arsenal engelsmans in the squad. So English is not important

A day before he was announced Arsenal were 100/1 to win next seasons PL

They are now 20/1: The UK bookies are not stupid they know that the sleeping giant is waking up.

yip, 3 Europa leagues on the bounce.

Hopefully he gets the best out of the team. Arsenal will always score goals, everybody knows the defence needs sorting and it looks like that they are signing a Dortmund defender (cant spell his name but its a long one) and the PSG defensive midfielder Rabiot. I hope that we can at least give it a go next season and finish in the top 4
