False Rail setting at Greyville
7 years 2 weeks ago
Why have a false rail for some races and then not at all??? SA racing should either have a false rail minimum setting or no false at all in any races.
In my opinion many good horses were done on Saturday because of there being no false rail but that is just my opinion maybe someone else saw it differently.
How do you study form when there is no record of the previous false rail settings at Greyville? Maybe Gold Circle in an effort to help the punter will print the false rail setting in the Computer Form so that punters know in advance instead of just announcing it on race day.....

In UK, France and Australia, there is hardly racecourses with false rails. Never seen trainers, jockeys complaining. That said in these countries group horses are entered with their grade of horses.

.....the false rail should not be used to handicap poorly drawn horses further....the rail is to be used to protect the racing surface from being continuously trafficked....however the absence of this rail on Saturday nearly led to a bigger accident and to some more dangerous riding especially in the 7th race where horses bunched up badly and caused P Botha's mount to be squeezed out and almost fall....but dislodging him as it clipped heels with the favourite....imo the Jocks should have been cognizant of the absence of the false rail and switch to the outside for unobstructed runs....yet in every race they tried to run up on the rail.... :S

Naresh, I am aware that in most countries there is no use of the false rail, the point is why have a false rail in SA and then remove it all together??? If false rails are to be used then there should be a minimum setting, & not zero, or do not use a false rail at all.
