Simons gets 45 Days

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry concluded at the NHA offices at Turffontein on 13 June 2018, Jockey Simons was charged with a contravention of Rule 77.1 read together with Rule 77.2.11.

This arose in that urine samples taken from him at the Vaal Racecourse on 27 October 2016, 29 October 2016 and 22 November 2016, were found, after analysis, to contain Hydrochlorothiazide, which is a banned substance in terms of the Rules of The National Horseracing Authority.

Jockey Simons pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of 45 days.

Jockey Simons has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.

Very unfair rule and ruling imho. Basically this is a weight loss aid and not a "drug".
I often wonder what has happened to good old common sense and to "discretion" nowadays. When we lose those, we lose direction. Pity.

Hearing this has been overturned/set aside?

Along with the Gadsby overturn it`s not been a great time for the NHRA

As common sense had gone down, there has been a rise in political correctness...very sad state of affairs...

The arrogance of the ignorant has also become more pronounced...
