Stiff Delpech
17 years 1 month ago
Recently this jockey is getting beaten in close finishes.Upstaged on Rocks Off and also Alitalia.Demoted on Bold Ellinore.Wonder what jockeys do after they go down narrowly on hot favourites.Do they study the race thereafter and see where they went wrong and improve their techniques if required thereafter, OR they just take it on the chin.Any comments.Striker by his high standards also seems to have gone cold for the time being.

in my opinion, the prices bookies give make these "hot pots" seem better than their form suggests and thats why so many get beat...

Would that explain why 'the favorite' is the most successful 'selector' of winners?
You guys are implying that bookies choose horses that look like they should win and shorten them, when actually they won't, and that they actually know what will win.
The reality is that if you ignore a few 100/1 shots, I'm often betting to 105% and less.
If you are right about false prices on favorites, you must have the greatest opportunity on the winners.
Now, with respect, I've tried to put this to you as decently as I can, it's not pro bookie it's just a arithmetical fact, and I make money on it.

bookmakers often price up horses with certain jockeys trainers or owners attached to them much shorter than they should be..also why does the jockey always get the blame for a favourite getting beat ,surely sometimes the trainer hasnt done their job properly.

If you have some belief in yourself as to studying form, you punt the horse you fancy at a price that represents value to you. If not value, move on to the next race (wish i could be that disciplined more often). The fav is then just a number.
Punters are often deviated from their path by rumours or tipsters, and that is a danger in itself.

How will the punter ever know if the trainer has trained the horse in the same way it was trained previously? maybe the punter needs to be aware of these things.(but how ? ) I do agree that jockeys bear the brunt of the blame - and yes sometimes they do ride a bad race, and the horse can be green, first time at that track, lights etc, BUT a good jock boots them home regardless on most occasions. if the jock is repeatedly getting beaten on so- called decent horses then maybe a change is required. (betting aside) Just my view.

I think bookmakers 'know' which are going to be the money horses and which horses look like money 'should' come for. They probably are priced up shorter, not because there chances are better, but they look to be backed.
But as said above, that has to give you value elsewhere in the race. These money horses are beaten as often as not.
Even Delpech must have runs where the heads just go against him for no good reason. Same for trainers with high winning rates.

Jack I think you're right mate.
It's not that the bookies shorting a 'fancied' horse - it's because they don't then 'balance' the field taht p's off most!
I mean if there's money on horse's 1 - 2 - 3 and 4 - how the hell can you leave the other 4 at the same price!!!
Roll on VC and or BF to SA = jokers out of business - real bookies who 'take' a bet!!!
