.....in days gone by.....the word Tout was also used here.....but a little differently.....the tout would hang around jocks, trainers and connections and fish for information....then pass the info along to either punters or bookies for an increment....

I always thought a tout was someone that sold something at an inflated price?

Many years ago I bought a ticket, to a France / Scotland rugby match, at the Stade de France, from a Spanish tout...the face price of the ticket was 125 francs and, between my faulty Spanish and his faulty English, we "settled' on 200 francs

Think France won 6-3...dull match is very wet conditions...

The ticket was directly behind one set of uprights so little to complain...thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of being in a crowd of 80000...still have a momento from the game...a bonnet-type hat with a blue and white ribbon band around it that the entire tier behind me were wearing during the duration of the match...as we were leaving the stadium at the end, I asked one of the French supporters and they gave me their hat

The standout memory of the match was listening to the band of bagpipes practicing, under the stands, the Scottish anthem about an hour before the game started - got the chills as it sounded even better live...and 20 metres away...
