Never taken a TOTE bet in my life... But agree with Neigh that the exotics should be played on the TOTE

Why not the TOTE and the Bookies shake hands and agree the same amount of "operational takeout/profit"

Or better still TOTE for exotics and Bookies for win and place bets(yankees etc)

100% Neigh. They are quite happy to brandish their name on all their own sponsorship initiatives, but go back to last weekend's Sporting Post and see if you can find one mention of the sponsors of last Saturday's entire Durbanville meeting.

We're all for gaining an advantage in whatever industry we circulate, but their refusal to mention a contributing industry competitors name - irrespective of what some may think of them - is poor.

I see that even John Freeman stated that the day was a success despite there being no sponsor which highlights how pushing their own agenda through a national publication is more important to them than the actual industry itself.

The authorities will not permit open-bet bookies to sponsor races

A very interesting observation and thought provoking post

....the operator lost the open bet court battle.....if only they declared that their dividends were actually a copyright or intellectual property in the same way that the National Lottery has protection on their numbers drawn and now prevents rival gaming companies like local bookies from using them for wagering......

How much would this client have made if he had played an atc?

An Open Bet is a TOTE bet that doesn`t make the Tote pools.. And is settled and stood by bookmakers

There`s pro`s and con`s...

The Pools are not diluted with winning tickets

Less goes back in the stakes pot( :( )

Better service from Bookmakers

Trainers/connections can manipulate pools through using the open bet

Every bookmaker has T&Cs on the open bet especially on the exotics. They differ quite drastically from one bookmaker to the other. Read them.

Due to convenience, I only play the open bet as it is a one stop shop from sport, live in play, horse, etc. Also for foreign meetings it helps with your payout being higher as the pools are much smaller for these meetings.

If all open bets laid were factored into the Tote pools itself, there will be much higher Tote pools which will definitely lead to higher payouts. How they lost the case, I have no idea. Until then I shall stick to the open bet.

Yes, it has been brought to my attention. Thought and assumed that WSB did not do open bet.
