....don.t understand that if he bet on the tote he would get less.....what are the bonus's that they are now adding to trump the tote.....maybe this would explain the dwindling tote pool as seen yesterday....join Hollywood and get more pay out....how are the tote going to find a way out......:S

Will try and get clarification but my guess would be if he placed bet with tote there would have been an extra winning ticket reducing the tote payout.
If HW sat on his bet and paid the tote payout this could be the logic behind the statement.?
As i said will try and get clarification with the maths

.....in theory this punter had more than a full ticket as the P6 tote payout was ZAR1.18 BAR....and had he played on the tote would have added more than a full winning ticket reducing the payout to below R450K
.....must say that Hollywood with this type of advertisement will put a serious dent in future P6 pools..... as the astute big perm players could now be drawn to place wagers on big pool days with this open bet opportunity and get payouts in excess of the tote pool.....

There were 1.24 winners of the Greyville Pick 6 on Sunday.
The pool was R1 463 741 with a dividend of R1 182 185 – the Hollywood punter took a perm for 99%. He doubled up in one leg, so effectively won the bet 1.98 times – his payout with Hollywood was limited to the total pool.
If he had played on the tote there would have been 3.22 winners ( the pool would have increased by a net R7500 to R1471241 ) with a new declared dividend of R456 907 – his payout would have been that sum times 1.98, which equates to R904 675.
The 1,24 punters who caught the Pick 6 on the tote also benefitted – as their end dividend would have been diluted by about 60%.

yeah the open bet is now the smart bet....don't begrudge Hollywood though as they put a lot back into the game with highly visible sponsorship's to trainers Jocks and a big customer retention strategy......the operators need to seriously up their game and look how it should be done....however I still fear that the game is at a serious tipping point as far as owners and stakes are concerned.....even the bigger players like Varsfontein are now asking about stakes related matters in SP....no punter no racing...... but no owners no horses for racing.....

100% Muhti.........
Whilst Hollywood is one of the best in the game if the tote is not supported then less stakes, less stakes will lead to less horses racing and less owners.
I have reduced my ownership as racing is stuck in a spiral and people do not want to make change happen.
Although I don't belong to the RA and have nothing against the new leaders chosen in the WC, history has shown that an OWNERS/TRAINERS/BREEDERS association does not and has not worked.
Similarly in KZN there is a movement to resurrect the TRAINERS/OWNERS/BREEDERS association, an association that failed and to date the only beneficiaries have been Trainers & Breeders with more and more grants/discounts & donations. Racing will only change when owners have input and Operators are held to account.

My take is that bookies should not be allowed to place bets on tote bets. A tote is a separate entity where punters money is pooled together for the benefit of the people who invested into the pool.
Bookies should only be allowed to offer fixed bets.

If all punters had placed their Pick 6 bets with Hollywood the dividend the punter would have won would have been R0.

Hollywood sponsor jockeys/trainers and nothing for stakes/owners and that is why I don't support them. The open bet should be for stakes/tote. Everyone will only wake up when the jock has no horse under him to ride, the trainer has no horse to train and the rest will be history. Horse racing is in shit- street right now and with organisations making money out of it and putting nothing back only adds to the problems.
