NHRA CEO betting
6 years 8 months ago - 6 years 8 months ago
I note that the applications for this position closed yesterday. In my opinion anyone that applied for the job without being asked to do so would have been wasting their time. I can just imagine the freeloaders that would be interested and list a tongue in cheek shortlist with betting offered:
Peter Gibson - serial offender with regards to occupying positions within racing. Popular with many but his list of achievements may be lacking. His skin colour may be a big factor too. Not politically correct
Verdict : Outsider 12/1
Arnold Hyde - the NHRA wallflower. Hides behind the all powerful rules. If he has ever shown a personality it has never been recorded. His pale male status counts against him. Rumours are that he has been appointed the acting CEO whilst a suitable candidate is found. He would be well advised to study history and continue running.
Verdict : Rank outsider 20/1
Robert Bloomberg - Racings self appointed legal eagle. Knowledgeable and comes with a superb racing pedigree. It may be a bridge too far for him to give up punting. He should be the Chairman, a true racing man
Verdict : Dark Horse 8/1
Vee Moodley - on paper the perfect candidate. Charismatic, previous history at the NHA, the right skin pigmentation. Against him is the salary offered would be less than he currently receives and another who would have to open betting accounts in his wifes name to comply with the conditions of employment. Having said all of that, he can't be happy at losing out on the Phumelela top job and may be petulant enough to consider an offer should it come
Verdict : False Favourite 8/10
Mike Wanklin - Southern Africa's international racing man with an extremely impressive CV. Handicapping expert and has held executive positions in Singapore, but will be well remembered for his contributions to Cape racing. Old school disciplinarian, something the NHA desperately need. In normal times he would be a strong front runner. Pettiness, skin colour and politics will count against him. The NHA may not afford him either.
Verdict : Strong contender 12/10
Some Affirmative Action compliant change agent - Should have no chance in this specialist field but modern history cautions not to leave out of permutations. Must be able to take orders from the baase in charge. Must be big on slogans, big on action plans that will not be implemented, be a man big on death by powerpoint to still the dissenters, and most importantly be big on appointing people of colour who dont fit the profile needed. There are many perks he can abuse so the position will be desirable to many.
Verdict : Probable ringer NOT PRICED UP
My predictions 1. Some affirmative action change agent 2. Vee Moodley 3. Mike Wanklin 4. The field

This place would be so much less entertaining or informative where you not here, Over the Air.
One must not overlook these criteria when laying odds :
Candidate must be Phumelela approved
Candidate must accept that Phumelela has issue with NHA jurisdiction
Candidate must be a “philanthropist”
Candidate must have valid passport and not fear flying.
Feel free to add your factors which might affect the betting should you wish

.....yes you had better shorten the odds on the ex-optometrist as he meets most of the criteria.....and a bonus he can get discounts on the much needed lens upgrades for all the NHRA stipes......
