How good is National Park?

Seen a few experts say the 3yo crop is pants.. I think it was based on the fact a "PE" horse humped a few Jozi horses... Thoughts?

The simple answer is that it is far too early to assess the 3 yo crop. In CT we have dozens of well bred 3yos that have still to debut, and every week now we see them stepping out. The two debutants that fought out the second race at Turffontein beating Owlinthetree 10 L are probably already as good as anything running in the 3yo features on the day- they ran the 1400m in a similar time to the feature races.

I expect that by the end of summer we will have enough evidence to judge, but so far I have seen enough to be optimistic about the strength of this crop.
One World is the leading 3yo colt in my book, and Twist of Fate was also very impressive last week.
Clouds Unfold is the leading 3yo filly.

he ran to a 114 if you handicap the race correctly but with the handicapper restrictions will probably end up way overrated or way underrated. Very important to do own handicapping to have an edge over bookies and other punters

Time will tell but that was a sub standard field in my opinion. I don’t think Chimi stayed and de Kock’s horse by Dawn Approach...well if you look at pedigree’s, the New Approach and Dawn Approach horses come early as 2 year olds but few train on as they get older. There is the exception but I’m not convinced so I think besides that it was a field of average handicappers. There are still some top 3 year olds elsewhere to come. By January we shall know more!

This horse may never win a race again.

Remember VIA SEATTLE won a feature race in Jhb last year and has been disappointing ever since!!!

National Park 106 from 96
Chimi 116 unchanged still highest rated 3 year old in SA.
In Cahoots 88 from 85. This horse must be a banker next time it runs. This should have gone up more.

....National Park now off a fair mark.... will now need to be aimed at the KZN season....but may be a bit range bound as the family back to the 3rd dam never got more than a mile....

I think he is way better than his current MR. In soft going, giving weight away to just about the whole field, he pulverised them in a time of 82.59 (how close is that to the course record ?) First time at the track, altitude etc. Muhtiman in my opinion he will see out the 1600m taking into account the going and Ryan not giving it his all. He has far more scope for improvement than most in that field.
