RACE 5 – THE FLYNT INTERNATIONAL FORWARDERS TROPHY – 990M
The Stewards approved jockey R. Joorawon as the replacement rider for jockey S. Bussunt who was unable to ride Malak El Moolook at the carded weight of 54.5 kg. Assistant Trainer H. K. Gujadhur was reprimanded and told that in future he is to ensure that jockeys can ride at the carded weight when declaring them on his horses.
On arriving at the barrier Belong To Me became fractious and charged through the barrier lead-on rail, with jockey A. Balloo becoming dislodged. Belong To Me galloped riderless around the track and near the 700 metres collided heavily with Answeringenesis, which sustained a fatal spinal injury. Apprentice B. Louis was dislodged. Belong To Me sustained a fracture to the off fore shoulder and was captured near the 200 metres.
Belong To Me and Answeringenesis were euthanised.
Jockey Balloo sustained a knee injury. Apprentice B. Louis was free of injury. Jockey Balloo will be
questioned regarding this incident.
The start of this race was delayed by 25 minutes.
