Very competitive Summer Cup day especially with the Dingaans and Fillies Mile being moved.
Personally, no big bets for tomorrow. I'm more looking forward to the fast approaching Cape features(Hint Hint - Hawwaam - Guineas, Front & Centre - Fillies Guineas and RB - Green Point
)
But still an intriguing card which is fun to dissect.
Race 1 - Comaneci 9/2
Extrememly encouraging sprint LTO on the same track. Should be ideal now to go very close here. Obvious danger is Eskimo Kisses.
Race 5 - Pretty Penny 6/1, Captain's Princess 8/1
Pretty Penny pulled off 3 impressive wins before being put to the sword LTO. She had excuses there so I'm willing to give her another chance especially with just 54kgs on her back. Also back down the straight should be a big help for her. Hope the track is running fast and she'll be a massive runner.
Captain's Princess has always shown ability, feature race placed and has looked like building on her progress as a 3yo. 3rd run after rest tomorrow and should feel more comfortable back against the girls.
Race 6 - Pinnacle Peak 9/2, Africa Rising 20/1, Hard to Play 25/1
Pinnacle Peak needs no introduction. Esteemed at the highest level - 2nd in the computaform sprint, 2nd in the golden horseshoe. One would say he's overdue a win in a big one. I think he's drawn perfectly as well. They usually favour the extreme outside in sprints on the big days. Hoping he can go close.
Then I've gone with Africa Rising and Hard to Play with small win bets - at big prices I felt were too good to ignore. Both classy animals at the bottom of the weights who could turn up if the race pans out for them.
Race 7 - Cascapedia 9/2, 11/2 and Noble Secret 15/2
Have followed Cascapedia since her 2nd start and she hasn't disappointed on too many occasions. Lovely galloping filly who loves the Standside course. She has already proven her class, beating males in the London News. Funnily enough, she hasn't raced over 2000 before but the extra distance is only a benefit IMO. She will improve a few lengths from that last run and I really think she will go close to winning.
Noble Secret's another horse I've followed since debut. Bit frustrating at times has to be said but there's no question about the talent. I'm drawing a line through his Charity Mile run. He just needs to reproduce his derby run and off 52kgs, I see no reason why he can't pull it off. Jockey/trainer/owner combination pulled this off with Flirtation and i'm hoping history repeats itself!
Race 8 - Fiorella 5/1, Green Top 10/1
Love Fiorella, lovely gutsy filly who's finest moment will always be lowering the colours of the then thought unbeatable Snowdance in the KZN Fillies Guineas. She always gives her best and is extremely courageous. Cracking run in the Woolavington and then wasn't a bad effort in the July. Is 1600m her best trip? Not sure but beating Snowdance really puts a strong case for it being her best distance. Once again, she will give up her best and go down fighting to the wire.

54.5 of Cascapedia should be in the lower threshold of Lerena's riding weight

Wonder if he will ride overweight - of course none of the esteemed guests managed to bring up that point on USO - unless it was mentioned on the discussion on Thursday night (which I missed thanks to Escom

Have any of you checked how they betting in the first race now?
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Just for the record, Lerena said on the panel discussion Thursday night, that he does ride at 54.5kgs, which is the weight of Captain's Princess in the 5th as well. Remember i said on the other thread, whilst he can ride 54.5kgs, he chose Schippers.
