dont get it.

I don't get it either - surely you can't have LE and UA running at 120 and then RB at 110 .... for me I think the horse to be used a line horse is Undercover Agent at 120....

Legal’s MR doesn’t go down. He may have run that race to a 120 so his current higher MR remains.
As for Rainbow, is it not that his 4th position keeps his current MR? Something like that other horse in the July this year.

Trying to get a reply as there are fixed rules and Mac you are probably correct about 4th horse no change?

Regardless ( it is disturbing though) of what going on around him Legal Eagle still has at the minimum two lengths of improvement fitness wise within him

One of the stupid rules reads;
" The winner and placed horses in a grade 2 or grade 3 race is capped at a 10 point penalty for the winner, 5 points for 2nd place and 3 points for 3rd place".
Hence the 4 th horse gets no adjustment even though he ran 116.

Given that this was a slow run (false pace race) and most of the runners not fully fit as they are aiming for the QP where they need to peak, the handicapper should be a bit cautious. Thus, LE need not be adjusted downwards even though he did not run to his 123 here. Raising Do It Again to 120, equal to Undercover Agent looks about right, and Rainbow Bridge was getting 2kg so he is 116, but cannot be adjusted.
The problem of course is that when they get to the QP, Joe Public will see that RB is 10 points out with the others on the official handicap which is misinformation of criminal proportions.

Ammo for those that say Merit Ratings are not to be trusted - I'm always on the conservative side when doing my ratings ... given that all of them probably have improvement to come, I think raising Do it Again is not correct .... having re-assessed I'd go with the following:

Legal Eagle 117
Undercover Agent 117
Do it Again 117
Rainbow Bridge 113
Hat Puntano 106
