TRAINER’S COMMENTS AND FIRST FOUR SELECTIONS :
RACE 1 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
8 / 4 / 7 / 2
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 1, 4 and 8 - ALRIGHT JACK, FOREIGN SOURCE &
VIKING MOON : Alright Jack and Viking Moon have their first runs.
Foreign Source ran well on debut and should be right there again.
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 2, 3 and 7 - BIG BAY, DUET & SIR CALEB : Big
Bay is a nice type and if not too green can place. Duet is speedy and
has a quartet chance. Sir Caleb ran a good first race and improvement
is expected.
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 5 and 6 - MARCELLIN & ONLY IN MY DREAMS :
Marcellin ran a fair race on debut, we are hoping he can follow up but
he can tend to be colty. Only in my Dreams has his first run, he will
need further and this will be an educational run.
RACE 2 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
1 / 3 / 2 / 4
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 1, 2 and 3 - BRANDINA, EDMONDA & GREAT
ACHIEVEMENT : Brandina followed up her maiden win first time out with
a great race in Capetown and she must have a decent shout. Edmonda and
Great Achievement both won on debut too and have come on.
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 4, 5 and 6 - WILY LASS, COMET PATH &
DOMINICA : Wily Lass won well on debut, she takes on stronger. Comet
Path is a speedy filly, she has a quartet chance. Dominica is a neat
filly and she can place if not too green.
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 7, 8 and 9 - FEARLESS FAIRY, JUST AMAZING &
MISS INN IN ACTION : All three are having their first runs against
winners. We are hoping for fair efforts but greenness could play a
role.
TARA LAING - Number 10 - SPEECHMAKER : She is a nice filly, it is a
strong field as a maiden against winners, but she could run a place.
RACE 3 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
3 / 4 / 1 / 6
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 1 and 6 - UNION JACK & STREAK OF SILVER :
Union Jack is always capable of earning and is better than his
slightly disappointing last. Streak of Silver is consistent and has a
place chance.
TARA LAING - Number 2 - AFRIKABURN : He could be better over the
mile but at the weights he has a chance.
ANDRE NEL (comments prior to travel) - Number 5 - PERCIVAL : He lost
his form and a bit of speed and it’s been impossible to find the
perfect race for him at the moment. I have to try something different.
His work is good and if he sees out the extra he could run a much
improved race.
RACE 4 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
2 / 6 / 3 / 7
CANDICE BASS-ROBINSON (comments prior to travel) - Number 2 -
CRADLEOFGRATITUDE : He is drawn a little wide but he ran on well in
his last and he has a good chance.
SHARON KOTZEN - Number 3 - LETS BE FRANK : He did find the mile
last time out a stretch too far and back to the 1400m better is
expected.
GAVIN SMITH - Number 5 - REYMUNDO : His last run, on turf, was a
good one and he improved well.
VAUGHAN MARSHALL (comments prior to travel) - Number 7 - RIKERS
ISLAND : He is drawn well which will help and he has a small place
chance.
TARA LAING - Number 8 - SHY GUY : Has his first run for the yard,
hoping for improvement.
GEORGE UREN - Number 9 - THE DONEGAL MAN : He is well and could have
a place chance.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 10 and 11 - JADEED & TIBETAN ROUGE : We do
think Jadeed will enjoy the 1400m. He could manage quartets. Hoping
for improvement from Tibetan Rouge.
RACE 5 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
1 / 2 / 5 / 15
CANDICE BASS-ROBINSON (comments prior to travel) - Numbers 1, 4 and
6 - EPIC STORM, CHESTNUT LEGACY & DREAM A DREAM : I think the mile
will suit Epic Storm, she is drawn well and should have chance.
Chestnut Legacy has bit to do from the bad draw. Dream a Dream tends
to hold her breath a bit, the tongue tie is on and I’m hoping for an
improved run.
GLEN KOTZEN (comments prior to travel) - Number 2 - ELUSIVE GREEN
: Ignore her last, she had excuses. Her previous form was good and
solid and she will be competitive.
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 5 and 12 - DETTIE & MYSTIC JOURNEY : Dettie
gets on well with Ryan Munger. Her last run was a cracker and though
the mile may be a touch short another good run is expected from her.
Hoping for improvement from Mystic Journey.
TARA LAING - Number 7 - CHAT SHOW : She tries the mile, hoping for better.
DUNCAN MCKENZIE - Numbers 8, 10 and 14 - AFRICAN DIAMOND, GREAT
SOUND & SIOUXPERPHILI : Hoping for improvement from African Diamond.
Great Sound has run two good last races and she will run well again.
Hoping for improvement from Siouxperphili.
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 13 and 15 - PETIPA & GINGER ROCK : Improvement
expected from Petipa. Ginger Rock has a place chance.
ANDRE NEL (comments prior to travel) - Number 3 - MORE THAN A DIME :
She is better than her form, always gets a nightmare draw, here again,
but with the longer straight it shouldn’t hold the same problems.
Doing well, each way chance.
RACE 6 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
5 / 10 / 2 / 7
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 2, 4, 12 and 14 - EVOLVER, CHAPPAQUIDDICK,
ROKATENDA & SESS : Evolver races off very consistent form. Improvement
is expected Chappaquddick over this trip. Rokatenda has a light weight
and we’re hoping he can place. Hoping for improvement from Sess.
GLEN KOTZEN (comments prior to travel) - Numbers 5 and 6 - PARADE
MARCH & SECOND CHANCE : Parade March is a progressive three year old
stayer and he won a good race on his post maiden last time out. He can
be there again. Second Chance gets going when the race is over, so he
will appreciate the longer run in and the step up in trip.
SHARON KOTZEN - Numbers 3 and 9 - SEEKING WISDOM & DATA LINK : Both
fillies take on male opposition. Seeking Wisdom tries the 2400m, but
breeding does suggest she’ll enjoy it and she’s super honest, always
giving her all, so if she sees it out, she will run well. Data Link is
a genuine stayer. She may take on slightly stronger than usual due to
a lack of races for her, but she is not without chance.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Numbers 8, 11 and 15 - CAPE LEOPARD, PACHUCO &
OMAHA TRIBE : Cape Leopard is well and this trip will suit. Pachuco
improved in his last. He tries further here but we do think he will
enjoy it. Hoping for improvement from Omaha Tribe.
ANDRE NEL (comments prior to travel) - Number 7 - VILETTE : There
are no races for her, I am sure she’ll stay and could be considerably
better over the extra, tough taking on the boys but good place chance.
GRANT PADDOCK - Numbers 1 and 13 - LUCKY LULU & SUCHA CHARMER :
Lucky Lulu will use this as a prep for the Lakeside Handicap. She is
fit and well and putting up good work, but the top weight is a
concern. Improvement is expected from Sucha Charmer.
RACE 7 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
1 / 7 / 3 / 6
TARA LAING - Numbers 4, 6 and 8 - GO DIRECT, FREE AGENT & PLANO :
Go Direct will run a better race, he is well in at the weights and
include him in exotics. Free Agent is very well, with the Cape runner
especially the race is hard, but he’s a runner. Plano is prepping for
the Lakeside Handicap.
CANDICE BASS-ROBINSON (comments prior to travel) - Number 7 -
OLLIVANDER : He always seems to find one to beat him, he has a mind of
his own. But he is always thereabouts and always has a chance.
JACQUES STRYDOM - Number 9 - FRIKKIE : He ran a decent last over
shorter, will appreciate being up in trip and though he bumps a
competitive field, can earn.
ALAN GREEFF - Number 2 - FIRE IN THE BELLY : He is a decent sort and
can place, though he is probably at his best on Poly.
GAVIN SMITH - Number 5 - WILD BRIER : He is consistent.
RACE 8 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
16 / 1 / 4 / 14
CANDICE BASS-ROBINSON (comments prior to travel) - Number 1 -
FREEDOM CHARTER : She is very well and looking amazing. Her Capetown
sprint form is good and she must have a shout.
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 5, 7, 9, 10, 11 and 14 - SALTIRE, VIA SACRA,
MAKE IT RAINE, PEPPER OAK, QUICK GLIMPSE & CARLITA : Saltire is useful
filly, the 1200m will be the question as until now she has been kept
to 1000m. Via Sacra also could be at her best over 1000m, she does
have good recent form though and if she sees the extra furlong out,
could place. Make it Raine bumps a strong field, but she is not out of
it as far as the placings are concerned. Pepper Oak is a pacey filly,
she is at her strongest over 1000m. Quick Glimpse loves the 1200m, she
is up in class but can show cheek. Carlita is a classy filly and she
can be competitive.
TARA LAING - Number 8 - SASSY LADY : It’s a very strong field and
ideally she would prefer further.
GAVIN SMITH - Number 12 - SMART SUZY : Hoping to place, it is a very
competitive field.
DUNCAN MCKENZIE - Number 13 - HORSE HAIZI : She is in a very strong
line up, but is very well.
VAUGHAN MARSHALL (comments prior to travel) - Number 15 -
CANUKEEPITSECRET : She is very well and putting up tremendous work.
She is in with a big chance.
ANDRE NEL (comments prior to travel) - Number 6 - EVELINA : She is
in terrific form, she is the reason we are travelling. Gone up in the
weights, toughest task to date, very open race, but she will put up a
strong effort.
GLEN KOTZEN (comments prior to travel) - Numbers 2 and 3 - LUNA
CHILD & OSTINATO : Luna Child ran a good sprint race a few runs back
and she should be flying late. Ostinato is never far off, she has been
costing herself at the off in her latest, but we have worked with her
back home and we are hoping she jumps on terms.
RACE 9 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
5 / 3 / 12 / 1
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 2, 4, 5, 12 and 15 - NIFTY FIFTY, DELIA’S
DELIGHT, BUSHIRI, KEEP THE FAITH & CLIFTON BEACH : Nifty Fifty hasn’t
come on as much as was expected, she can earn here. Delia’s Delight
posted a good win on local debut and should enjoy a little extra.
Bushiri is a nice filly, she won her last and can be there again. Keep
the Faith is knocking hard and holding form well, she should be in the
mix. Clifton Beach is improving with each run.
GLEN KOTZEN (comments prior to travel) - Number 3 - SPRING BURST :
She didn’t run the greatest race in her post maiden last time out but
she will be better suited to the 1400m, has the best draw and a
capable jockey, she will be a decent runner if she travels well.
VAUGHAN MARSHALL (comments prior to travel) - Number 6 - GRANDIFLORA
: Disregard her last, her saddle slipped badly. Her form is good and I
think she’ll run a very good race.
CANDICE BASS-ROBINSON (comments prior to travel) - Number 7 - GO
SNOW GIRL GO : She will have her work cut out for her from the very
wide draw. Her work is good so hopefully she can tuck in and run on.
DUNCAN MCKENZIE - Numbers 8, 9 and 16 - CURVED LIGHT, SAN’S DANCER &
AMAROSA : Both Curved Light and Amarosa have been a bit disappointing
and I am hoping they can do better. San’s Dancer won well in her last
and will run well again.
GAVIN SMITH - Numbers 10 and 13 - FANFARE & FRENCH NOBILITY :
Fanfare has an outside quartet chance. French Nobility has her first
out of the maidens.
ANDRE NEL (comments prior to travel) - Number 17 - GUILTY PLEASURE
(Reserve 1) : Hope she gets a run as she is doing well.
TARA LAING - Number 1 - DON’T STOP DANCING : She is ultra consistent
and must have a good chance.
RACE 1 :
1ST FOUR SELECTIONS :
8 / 4 / 7 / 2
ALAN GREEFF - Numbers 1, 4 and 8 - ALRIGHT JACK, FOREIGN SOURCE &
VIKING MOON : Alright Jack and Viking Moon have their first runs.

They should really do something about the number of horses a trainer can have in a race.....allows for too much treachery....just my humble opinion...

Parade March - 33-10 early(not sure now) - His form is tops - Maiden win produced 4 direct winners and multiple places... but subsequent win even better - He beat Holy Land who finish 2.4 lths behind highly rated Charles and Vardy in a really strong MR 80 - Has blossomed with blinkers and is a proper stayer - Front runner though and travel always a concern but should be under 2-1 so room to exploit
An outsider to consider is CHESTNUT LEGACY who raced 3 wide last time then she lost ground and her jockey battled to find a run and get her back into the race - when the race was over she ran on strongly - include in quartets etc as she has a different rider up now that has vast experience at this track

When trainers can have 3/4/5 horses in a race it going to cause punters many problems...trainers should only be allowed 2 horses per race.....

But he's the one looking like a chop.
He probably even told the owners of the winner to back Foreign Source.

Race 4: Cradle of Gratitude brings useful Cape form and is the one to beat. I’m hoping that Elusive Fountain can build on her good last run and beat her. A few others with chances-7,3,1,4
Race 5: We send Elusive Green - she has travelled well and her Cape Town form is solid- she has not had much luck in running on a couple of occasions. Good ew chance. Epic Storm has been running over further but is effective this trip and the one we have to beat.
Race 6: Parade March has also travelled well. He is an improving young stayer and I think a good winning chance. We also have Seeking Wisdom in the race- she always gives of her best, and should see out the trip. Should be in the money. Vilette is down in the ratings, and off this weight is our main danger. Palo Alto is also way downin the ratings and could be a threat. Second Chance is held by Vilette but could surprise.
Race 8: Freedom Charter was drawn wide in the Prix du Cap, so runs here. She is the best of the older fillies, and has strong 1200m form. Travelled well and an ew chance. The three yo fillies are all smart sorts, and perhaps Mary O’Reilly the pick, although little between them at best.

It's amazing how much punters rely on jockeys.
You can have the best horse but if you place him badly and time your run wrong, money down the drain.
