TRUE CRIME

The fact that fraud was committed at Steinhoff and countless lives were affected is a reality however the TRUE CRIME is the time taken to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.

The fact the Steinhoff has just revealed snippets of the investigative report by the company they contracted to conduct it is evidence enough that society and dare I say government are not motivated enough to bring criminals to justice.

Collaboration between SA, Holland & Germany should have been step one along with the top financial crime units from each country and an independent investigative unit being set up.

"A society can be judged on the way they treat their animals", well in this case involving financial crime we have failed miserably as a society in the time taken to exact justice. As with our friend Bernie Maydoff & Co., it takes so long for justice to be exacted that the crime almost seems worth it.

In the case of horse racing, once again it is associated with major fraud by default.

....what would be a true crime is if Jooste did not feather many many other nests and converted these many many share options and bonus's into some other form of untouchable investments....my money is on the fact that he is not such a cleva box and thought he'd never get caught....and he will be burning all of his stash to keep his arse out of a cell.....:blink:

think about working moms who have unit trusts or such for their kids education. They got hit by african bank and now steinhoff.

President Ramaphosa has proclaimed the establishment of the Investigating Directorate in the Office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Presidency said in a statement on Tuesday that this was done to address allegations emerging from various commissions of inquiry, and corruption-related crimes in general.

The Investigating Directorate was proclaimed in terms of Section 7(1) of the National Prosecuting Authority Act, 1998 (Act No.32 of 1998).

"This has been done on the recommendation of the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, the Minister of Police and the National Director of Public Prosecutions", the presidency said.

The Presidency said the new directorate will investigate common law offences including fraud, forgery, uttering, theft and any offence involving dishonesty.

It'll also be tasked with investigating any unlawful activities relating to serious corruption including offences or criminal or unlawful activities that was revealed at commissions and inquiries, such as the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into state capture.

....the real true crime is actually there is no authority in RSA that is truly qualified to to prosecute this matter successfully as they have no people at the NPA Hawks with the experience to even understand this form of fraud and how to even proceed......:S.....they say that this matter is way above their pay grades...:dry:
