Dubai World Cup

The BIG night is on Saturday the 30th March.

I personally feel in comparison with the money on offer we don’t actually get to see the best horses on the planet on World Cup night, however should be a spectacular evening.

The good news is that it looks a decent card for favourite backers where a few hotties can arrive .

Mile: Hard to oppose Muntazah, it’s going for 3 in a row and Jim Crowley can bring the Doug Watson 6 year old into the winners box.

Gold Cup : Cross Counter has only its stablemate Ispolini to beat, Call the Wind looks the correct trifecta horse and with a bit luck Marinaresco can run a decent race for MDK team.

Sprint : Blue Point looks best bet on the card and the banker for the night, Appleby and William Buick can have another good night.

Derby : Walking Thunder is my selection here and will be ridden by Frankie Dettori so max help from the saddle.

Golden Shaheen; When I looked at the card, I thought we had a raider from KZN in the name of “Roy H “ and looks to be the one to beat.

Turf : Almond Eye will be all the rage, in addition, according to a few posters we have a match race between the best two jockeys on the planet, Marcus vs Moore, but Dettori on Without Parole can spoil the party and is my best ew outsider selection for the meeting, could break the favs winning streak.

Sheema : I am sure many SA racing fans will dread seeing the Jooste owned Magic Wand winning, so my alternative selection would be Old Persian or Rey De Oro, but won’t have a punt.

World Cup: The Yanks always bring over their “beasts” to win he big one and North America fits this profile suggest you take the 7/2 and is certainly worth a punt .

Final fields to follow ....

Good Punting

My bet of the day is going to be on Golden Jaguar. This horse is going to be one of the greatest. Great draw, will run mid div and when entering the straight will quicken up and have the race sewn up at the furlong mark.

Good news for racegoers is that all nine Dubai World Cup races being run on Saturday will be broadcast live on Tellytrack on channel 239 on DStv.
And if last year’s numbers are anything to go by, punters can again this year expect some huge pools.
The main race last year saw some mouth-watering pools, with the Quartet reaching more than R2- million, the Trifecta more than R3-million, and the Exacta more than R4-million. The Win pool reached a whopping R5.5-million.
On Saturday the Quartet pool on the main race is estimated to reach R2.5-million. Punters should note that a full wagering menu will be offered by TAB and Betting World.
The Bipot starts in Race 2, the PA starts in Race 3, the Pick 6 starts in Race 4, and the Jackpot starts in Race 6. Interestingly, last year’s Jackpot pool touched the R2-million.

The full programme, with times given in SA time, is as follows:

13:45: Race 1. $1,000,000 Group 1 Dubai Kahayla Classic over 2000m.

14:15: Race 2. $1,500,000 Group 2 Godolphin Mile over 1600m

14:50: Race 3. $1,500,000 Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup over 3 200m

15:30: Race 4. $2,000,000 Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint over 1 200m

16:05: Race 5. $ 2,500,000 Group 2 UAE Derby over 1 900m

16:40: Race 6. $2,500,000 Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen over 1 200m

17:20: Race 7. $6,000,000 Group 1 Dubai Turf over 1 800m

18:00: Race 8. $6,000,000 Group 1 Longines Dubai Sheema Classic over 2 410m

18:40: race 9. $12,000,000 Group 1 Dubai World Cup over 2 000m

And now for the build up to the Dubai world cup let's cross LIVE to Alston at Bettingworld Mamelodi, the home of Sundowns, to ask a few mugs what they think will win in the Soccer 6.

The mouthwatering clash between dual Arc winner Enable and Almond Eye could first take place at York, and not Longchamp as initially thought, as a trip to the Ebor meeting is under consideration for the Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown winner.

When asked whether Almond Eye would run at York before tackling the Arc, trainer Sakae Kunieda said: "Maybe. I've not decided the plan but maybe we'll fly to England then to France. Everything will be decided after the race [on Saturday]."
