Another Bizarre Phumelela Board Appointment

Hereunder is the CV of one of the latest non-executive Phumelela board appointments.

Johnny Sexwale
Johnny was appointed to the rank of a Colonel in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF). He is currently a Reserve Officer. The Minister of Defence & Military Veterans of the SANDF appointed Colonel Sexwale to the Reserve Force Council (RFC). The RFC advises the Minister on matters affecting Reserves of the SANDF.

Johnny obtained a diploma in journalism from Evelyn Hone College in Lusaka, Zambia.
He studied military and political science in the Soviet Union, (USSR). He served and continues to serve on several Boards of State owned and Private entities such as Mantuba Investments, the Gauteng Gambling Board, and the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation.

Forgive me for asking but what exactly does he bring to the board that could possibly contribute to enhance horse racing apart from the fact that the SANDF was recently called out for not feeding their own horses.

Google reckons he's a brother of Tokyo. Also brings up news articles to a dodgy govt loan received back in 2010.

LinkedIn profile says he's a Director at the Gauteng Gambling Board.

I believe the corporate world labels this a 'strategic appointment' which in laymans terms means handing someone a title and role to appease certain parties.
