An interesting chat with a top trainer at Summerveld this am. He was saying that our international market is closing as our horses are rated too highly now and it is not worth importing them. This can be see by the way our horses ran in Dubai this past few months.

For me the Derby (and even the Oaks) tough to rate; if one looks at runners like Senor Lizard, Arlington's Revenge and Master Magic, Samurai Warrrior did not run to much more than 92
Of course looking at Zillzall as the line horse, the picture changes a lot.
In the Oaks, using Chitengo as a line horse, Return Flight on my ratings ran to around 99 (and I have her at that mark in the Fillies Classic as well). Interesting filly to watch here, is Pretty Border, who ran to 94
Regarding Unagi, if one believes Soqrat ran to his rating of 124, then Unagi ran to 118  I have Soqrat at 119 (same as in QP) which would make Unagi and Tilbury Fort 113 - so TF could be coming in slightly ahead of the Handicapper in the July

What is interesting the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th place finishers in the Derby, their ratings have been increased. They have set a precedent because if now if you run under the radar you will get penalised. Will make the July more interesting.
In other changes, SENOR LIZARD was raised from 85 to 88, ARLINGTONS REVENGE goes up from 80 to 84, MASTER MAGIC was raised from 80 to 84, ZANAKI goes up from 78 to 83, and LAST OF THE LEGEND was upped from 78 to 81. These horses finished from 5th place to 9th, and in doing this it is ensured that these five horses would meet one another on the correct weight terms in a handicap race. This satisfies the definition of a handicap. The only other change was OWLINTHETREE, whose rating was cut from 99 to 91.

Fair enough - but if they run to those ratings, now way can one rate SW at 104; also the 'meeting on correct weight terms' seems not to to apply to the fillies ....
