Singfonico is the biggest handicapping anomoly in recent times. An official MR 81, but because it was accepted already, it's racing off a MR 62.

Agreed Ruffian.
The only question is whether he has had sufficient recovery time since the run a week ago. The trainer must have a go now,as next time he will have to carry the huge penalty.
This case also highlights another really dumb anomaly in our rules. The reason that this horse gets the full 19 point penalty is because last time he ran in a much higher division race when many kilos under sufferance. If he had shown the same level of improvement when running in a race where he was not under sufferance, his penalty would have been capped at 8 points.
There is no logical reason why horses that are entered in races where they run under sufferance should lose the protection of 8 points max raise, but that’s how the rules are framed. I have raised this issue with the NHRA with no success.

Treble :-

Turf 4) Wonderous Climber X (Ken 4) Sleeping Single X (Ken 7) Singfonico
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Nice sunny day, little wind. Course fast.
Race 1: Mostly first timers- Lasata good enough unless one of them is smart.
Race 2: Again many first timers, and raced runners have not shown very much.
Race 3: Hidden Strings narrowly beaten by two decent sorts last time. Worth a win bet at 3/1.
Race 4: Half this field ran behind Blush Scarlet 3 weeks ago this course and distance. Sleeping Single has been priced up 14/10 , and although she is clearly on the upgrade, I can’t have her at that price. There should again not be much between those that finished in the first 6 in that race. Maningi Indaba fair debut, and must also be considered.
Grey Princess gets the best of the draw, and she has come on from her last run which was a fair effort from the worst draw. Good ew value at 12/1.
Race 5: Woodfuff has a strong hand here with Retro Effect marginally better than The Perfect Wave. Silver Plains has scope for improvement, as do Norfolk Pine, Indigo Tractor and Witwatersrand.
Race 6: Vforvictory is a progressive sort and is my first choice. Swift Surprise goes for a hattrick and has been well treated by the handicapper. Big Fish, Bold Assassin and Metropolitan all have chances.
Race 7: Singfonico just needs to repeat his last performance to come home lonely. Johnny Black is a bit inconsistent but looks next best. Bellingham Bay and Temp the Tiger could pick up a cheque.
Race 8: Very open- go wide in exotics. Valderrama has come way down in the ratings, and is well weighted on best form. Blush Scarlet is consistent and should be in the shakeup, along with Margrethe and Crusades Promise. Indi Anna has to overcome a wide draw but is on the upgrade.
