Racing. It's a Rush: PRESS RELEASE
Subject: World Sports Betting jumps on board
Date: 30th July 2019
An entity synonymous to horseracing in South Africa is none other than World Sports Betting. And 2019 sees their support for the industry grow even bigger.
They have sponsored racing events throughout South Africa, from the Western Cape, to the Vaal and Turffontein, back to the shores of PE and KZN and now the World Sports Betting Kimberly Festival taking place on Saturday, 3rd August.
But that’s not all!
We remember witnessing the legendary Frankie Dettori riding his first winner on South African soil, aboard the Joe Soma trained Turn Back Time. For many, throughout the world, it is a regular occurrence to witness one of the greatest jockeys of all time, but for us, in sunny SA it is a rare opportunity.
World Sports Betting, Air Mauritius and Sun International - opposite to that of Frankie’s signature dismount- jumped on board again to bring the loyal patrons of the game a world class series in the Jockeys International. This exciting event has been taken to an entire new level with Equinity joining the ranks.
“Equinity is an extravagantly themed, immersive experience, incorporated
into night-time horseracing. It includes a mind-blowing show that combines
live musicians, dancers and DJs on purpose built stages and sets. This edgy,
off-the-wall show takes place after the racing, while themed characters
entertain guests from start to finish.
Live horseracing is enhanced using drones, microphones on the track and
large LED screens. An incredibly crazy after-party seamlessly follows the
main performance and allows people to dance the night away listening to a
line-up of different DJ’s.”
Equinity packages start from R295 with the VVIP experience at R3, 995.
The line-up will be announced shortly.

That was not Frankie's first winner. His first winner was on a horse that Graeme and I owned with Paul do Carmo - "Telegraph" trained by James Goodman. This was way back when he had actually come out to ride London News in the Queen's Plate but had some health issues and never rode. The photograph of this legendary win was sadly in the Randjesfontein Clubhouse that burnt down - it had been signed by Frankie.
Perhaps Racing Its A Rush needs to revisit their facts in the press release.

RiR is not good at what it should be doing, promoting racing.Needs a proper reshuffle and maybe Debbie should be head hunted. She would do the job!!!

There are very few people - if any - more qualified than Debbie to turn this place around. I remember watching her, Clyde and James Maphiri way back in the mid 90s on a Friday night hosting ' See How They Run ' and then seeing her work with bookmaker Bill Ferguson before continuing on her chosen path.
She has had experience in pretty much ever facet of the industry - something that is clearly lacking with so many of the current Administrators - and if there was ever a perfect candidate, Debbie is it.

I'm not actually sure - think it was mid-December. The horse that always won for us on New Year's Day was Cowabunga.
