How does this work?

De Melo had 7 rides on an 8 race card. The closet he came to riding a winner was on Magic Mary, which finished second. The rest they are looking for somewhere around the Kenilworth racecourse/area.
My question is who pays the travel expenses to get to the course for an out of province jockey - they certainly not driving there, even if it is Durban to Johannesburg, let alone, Durban to Cape Town, call me naive.
Unless this poor chap is ride working in Cape Town, which he probably isn't, then he is reliant on the trainers instructions, unless you are Anton Marcus, what chance does one have?
If De Melo is paying the traveling expenses from his from his pocket, he is on a hiding to nothing, because, when the regulars are back, he chances will diminish even further.
PS, i rate him as a jockey despite the views of others on this site - just needs a decent break, say like Cormack in the Cape.

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Not sure who paid his airfare but his riding fees came to R7000 - still a profit even on an indifferent day for him.

Really not sure I am following this thread??
Are you blaming the trainer's instructions for his not riding a winner today??? The mounts he had today were certainly ones that would suggest having received a "decent break". Not having a go at him for not winning, just not sure I follow what is the actual point of this post?
