This closure of Flamingo Park is devastating and so on many levels.
Uber still make a loss into what is now their 6 or 7th year trading. Making a loss is NOT a crime nor is it unacceptable in business, its called a business plan and sometimes its necessary to make a loss for the overall good of a business.
Back to Kimberly/Flamingo
As a long term supporter of that race course and its surface ill state the following
had more people taken it seriously and sent a better quality of horse there some of the "moaners" would have accepted this as a very fair racecourse
had the been any amount of seriousness shown by the operator this would have been a successful racing centre
we now have NOT 1 sand track in SA and still some sand bred horses been bred
Now onto the -R23.5 Im sure that figure is correct but probably only correct when you look at it through stupid eyes. After all the impact of this closure on the industry must be far greater than R150m which would have given this much needed racing venue another 6-7 years of lifeline. 6-7 years to really invest in its infrastructure and via the programme demand a slightly better horse.
Now onto personal matters , if you have ever raced in Kimberley you will know the warmth you felt there, the banter and the people are power people. Some of those people are this morning looking for schools for their children, their wives are considering resigning from work and hoping to find work where ever they are "relocated to"
larry and Phumelela should hang their heads in shame. I adore racing, my monthly stabling bill is over R200k and I've brought in at least 20 new owners to SA , imagine what they would think reading this story today?
