Saturday at Turffontein

I am really excited about Saturdays meeting. It has nothing to do with the Jockey Challenge or the Million Maiden, those don't rev my motor at all both are just Larrys ego trip and a waste. No, what really excites me is the first 2yo races of the year. I love these 800m dashes from the new crop of youngsters. Over the years I have made some good money following stables that like to stump babies early. Without a shadow of doubt the champion from my era was Nic Claasen and he often filled the exacta and even trifecta in these early races, The undisputed champion of this modern era has been Corne Spies and I will not be surprised to see him win at least one of these races. He has a filly called Danceindamoonlight that is nominated for both the colts and fillies races so this looks to be the Spies bomb on the day and I will be having a bet.

As an aside, these baby races seem to be happening later and later in the year. If memory serves me correctly we used to have the Newmarket baby races end September.
