Soqrat being declared a runner meant quite a few changes from the Ante-Post betting - only Camphoratus  (and Soqrat of course) are now trading at shorter odds than quoted at Ante-Post  Infamous Fox, Divine Odyssey and (surprisingly Green Haze ?) are available at the same odds .....

Mac Soqrat has been declared, even though the stable said otherwise

I would not be surprised to hear that Lyle Hewitson comes over to ride Zillzaal but who knows

Racing in this country is a joke.
The biggest stable in the country makes it public knowledge that they will not run a horse in the province's premier race. Then all of a sudden decides that they will run the horse.
Problems.
1. Said horse is the ruling favourite, and one of the country's highest rates horses, not just some field filler. Statements like these should've been subject to even more than the usual level of prudence when being made. Imagine if the late Sir Henry Cecil made a statement like this about Frankel and then suddenly went against that after. Surely that would be market manipulation.
2. F the people that actually listen to them and take ante post bets accordingly.
3. Why the hell make a statement if you are not 100% sure, as Frodo pointed out earlier. Rather say nothing.
I'm done.

Is this not the 2nd time this has happened? Was there not an issue like this just a couple of months ago for the Durban July, when Hawwaam was at the top of the ante post boards and then suddenly doubled in price when something was said?

On a side note, Mdk could very possibly fill the quartet....

Ante post markets are all about speculation.
MDK has to make the best call at the time looking at various options with his normal talented string.
This year has been exception and has caused a bit havoc between punters and bookies.
We all know the rules as far as ante post markets and have to accept the ups and downs, we live to fight another day.
Remember its your call.
Good Punting

This race needs to be downgraded it has been years since a proper Grade 1 level field has faced the starter. The absence of Cape horses makes this but a top division handicap outside of the top 2.

Delighted for the young riders getting a chance
But imo shows you that our jock stock is depleted
