Kenilworth, 07/12

Tricky card with smallish fields, the ideal situation for those jockeys not afraid to think out of the box regards riding tactics.

My thoughts :-

R1) Sing Out Loud (4/10), no value with an on the head punt, but worth sticking in a multiple.

R2) On The Scent (2/1), sticking to my gut about riding tactics, Fourie has never been afraid to set his own fractions, from the draw I think this will race fairly handy if not setting it's own pace. Two horse race with Lady Lu being the danger, a case of who blinks first.

R3) Fade To Black (5/2), like the previous race, this must be a runner from the draw, question is will he stay? Going to say yes, style of running does not suggest he is a speed merchant. If anyone can "nurse" a horse through a race, Marcus can. The favourite is drawn widest, looks to race fairly handy, so in all probability would have to commit early to overcome the draw. Also a question mark as to whether he will see out the distance, will row in with Fade To Black.

R4) Academic Gold (16/10), proving a bit costly to follow, last chance. On breeding he should appreciate the step-up in distance, or so I'm hoping, but it looks like the bookies aren't prepared to take any chances. The second leg of my multiple with the one in the 1st race.

R5) Track Attack (3/1), think the longer run in will suit this horse, and despite the draw, I make him a runner. If he wins, trainer and jockey will be vindicated, if he gets beaten, there will be lots of "I told you so ....."

R6) Silver Host (22/10), must be a runner off the weight, not the most confident choice, but those are the choices that win - when one is not so confident - go and "put bombs" and see what is the mostly likely result when you feel confident in this game.

R7) Mayfern (33/10), has taken time to win it's maiden, could go in again.

R8) Priceless Ruler (33/10), this could be a good value bet on the day, look who he ran against last time, first run back from a break and provincial debut. I don't believe any in this field would have gone as close as he did last time against that field. Last leg of my treble.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Thanks Bayern. I make Academic Gold a top bet for tomorrow.

I am done with Track Attack though and if he wins, good luck to him and the connections. I lost two left nuts and a bolt on him, so thats where I call it quits.

Lovely summers day.
Race 1. Won’t oppose Sing out Loud. Forget O Girls the danger.
Race 2. Lady Lu looks progressive and is the one to beat. A few others with chances.
Race 3. An open race. Madirishsheriff is not too consistent but on best form is the one to beat. Smart William should improve this trip and must be respected.A few others that can improve to feature.
Elusive Tango is improving steadily and I think can run in the first three.
Race 4. Again an open maiden. Academic Gold has fair form over shorter and if she improves this trip should contest the finish. Quite a few that can improve this course.
Duchess of Malfi is improving steadily and I think has a place chance.
Race 5. The Second Wave should win this. Dangers are Track Attack and Morse.
Race 6. Snaith has a very strong hand with Silver Host and Tillieangus.
Race 7. Fynbos will love the summer course and I think that she will win this. Main danger is Rille.
Race 8. Very open race. Priceless Ruler is the class horse but may struggle to concede the weight to Orakal and Waiting for Rain.

Race 1 - What a Jewel would have needed her comeback run and did debut well this cd. While she can't beat the favourite she might hang on for a place at a nice price.

Race 5 - Track Attack suffered interference last start and the new course will suit.

Thoughts from the guest presenter ....

R1: Either try and buy some money with the favorite, or have a few rand on your fancy for a place

R2: Should lie between the top 3 -Alfred's Girl may be place value

R3: Trappy maiden plate, I'm including the top 4

R4: This is where it will be make or break for a few, Academic Gold worth taking on imo; Dark Mistress , Possibility, Hot Love, First Street and Royal Windsor all have credentials but only My Promise to You and Villita Rye look to have no chance

R5: The Second Wave overdue and should again fight out the finish; Track Attack may well put some disappointing efforts behind him, but really should struggle to re-coup even a 10th of his purchase price; JJ the Wolf and Morse look nice place value at the odds

R6: Silver Host the talking horse, takes on some useful older horses and on straight form has tough task to beat Brother Louis, but is improving, so could be up to the task; Only One Like You a danger, but imo could struggle to give Silver Host 3.5 kgs and a beating

R7: Tough handicap imo; Lunar Tunes the value imo as she has beaten Maningi Indaba in the maidens, while all of Rille, Fynbos and Power GIrl were beaten by MI - of those Power Girl is weighted to beat Rille and to finish close to Fynbos, so good value as well imo

R8: Interesting contest to close; for me Priceless Ruler and Liberty Hall look a cut above the others and I'm taking chance on those two in the last leg of the P6

Enjoy B)

Nice selection, should pay well considering it was the second last horse in the betting
