Such a difficult card.I cannot find one horse that looks worth a bet.On this holiday I can’t even do a bipod or pick 6. The hardest card I have seen in a long time.

Here are the trainers’ comments ahead of Mondays racing at Turffontein.
December 16, 2019

Race 1

Barend Botes

No 3 Fire And Ice has missed and could need further but he is in with a chance.

Paul Matchett

No 4 Foreign Field will need the run.

Chris Erasmus

No 6 Marais Four will be green.

Paul Peter

No 7 Portico shows pace.

No 10 War Room shows pace.

No 13 Top Drawer shows pace.

Corne Spies

No 11 Western Lion could be green but I am expecting a good run.

Race 2

Ashley Fortune

No 5 Elusive Woman is a nice filly and hopefully will not be too green.

Candice Dawson

No 7 Entente is a nice filly but might need the experience.

David Nieuwenhuizen

No 10 Matildarockbottom will need the experience.

Corne Spies

No 12 Rabbedoe could be green but I am expecting a good run.

Race 3

Tobie Spies

No 1 Esemess might need the run.

Robbie Sage

No 2 Varnica has a bad draw but does have a chance.

Gary Alexander

No 3 Thandekhile is not well drawn but has a good Eachway chance.

Race 4

Barend Botes

No 10 Snow In Seattle has been better up the straight.

Brett Webber

No 14 in The Game is badly drawn but is well.

Cedric Jonker

No 15 Prix Eclips is in a strong field but I am hoping for a good run.

No 16 Patric – I am hoping for a better run

Race 5

Gary Alexander

No 1 Magical Java will need the run returning from a break.

No 14 Vine Street Star has an Eachway chance.

No 16 Pretty Popular has a place chance.

Fabian Habib

No 3 Now You See Me is fit and has a chance in a competitive race.

Brett Webber

No 4 Kapama is very well and I am hoping for a big run from her.

No 11 Piccadilly Square is drawn badly so will need luck in running.

Race 6

Barend Botes

No 3 Jacko Boy has had both her intended races abandoned so has not run for a while. She may need this run.

Brett Webber

No 4 Rabia The Rebel keeps surprising and is not out of it.

No 6 Western Dance is well but is having her second run after a break so might just need the run.

Robbie Sage

No 10 By Chance has a bad draw to overcome after her maiden run but I am hoping for a place.

David Nieuwenhuizen

No 13 African Sunbird will need the run.

Race 7

Gary Alexander

No 2 Ideal Cut has a place chance

No 7 Ritchi – I am looking for an improved run.

Brett Webber

No 10 Laat Lammetjie might be better at the Vaal but I am hopeful.

Race 8

Roy Magner

No 5 Rebel Renegade has been troublesome in the pens but has been re-certified.

Robbie Sage

No 9 Boatswain should be in the money.

Race 9

Fabian Habib

No 14 Evening Rise is in a competitive race but has a place chance.

Race 10

Barend Botes

I am hoping that both my runners No 3 Philomena and No 15 Fly North can be in the Quartet.

Stephen Moffatt

No 12 Cosmic Mist is a temperamental filly that is well and I am hoping for a good run.

Fabian Habib

No 15 UFO is dropping in distance and I am hoping for a place.

Race 1 - Action Packed
Race 2 - no selection
race 3 - belle view ew varnica and three peaks include
race 4 - We All CHomies strong ew gemcutter 2nd selection
race 5 - studied this race hard i cant see miss khalifa winning or kapama or now you see me....the horse i fancy strong is VINE STREET STAR ... miss khalifa is weighted to beat kapama and vine street is weighted to beat khalifa 3rd run after a rest 3 time winner from a decent draw dangers are pink and and walnut dash
race 6 - possibly the most open race on the card for me perfect light well bred but jumps heavily in class jive express got to have a chance all of 1 3 4 9 14
race 7 - Hawthorn has to be a deserved fav laat lammetjie has to be a serious danger came from the clouds last time its my darling can place and stately home you have to look at the form of race 3 wild n grey formline
race 8 - an absolute nightmare hot august carrying 48kg my 1st selection with good form like 8 kg better off with pearl of siberia for 1legnth
race 9 - f take out 4 7 11 12 13

Race 8 - Alex The Great and Sullenberger met last time in a graduation plate where S beat ATG by 4.5l. Today's race is weaker and they both should go well. ATG better off at weights and at 3 to 1 to place (first 4) looks a nice place bet.
Sullenberger my choice for win purposes.

Only 1 bet for me today in this minefield card - Race 8, Alex the Great.

Goes for Storey, loves the Turffontein 1000m straight. How the horse opened 20/1 goodness knows. 8/1 is a realistic price imho.

A very good each way bet.
