Trainer Comments :
RACE 1 :
1st four selections
1 / 6 / 2 / 4
• GAVIN SMITH – Numbers 1 and 2 – GOOD TIMES ROLL & COMET PATH :
Good Times Roll is in good form and has a chance here. Comet Path is working well and will be thereabouts.
• DUNCAN MCKENZIE – Number 6 – QUEEN MAKEDA : she could find the 1200m a touch sharp, but she races off good recent form and is well.
JACQUES STRYDOM – Number 7 – BILLI ANN : She is in good form but this should be sharp for her. It is an open field and she could pop up to place.
JUAN NEL – Number 4 – TERRA CREEK GIRL : Though her form is not encouraging I am confident of a good run as I feel she has been looking for the 1200m on turf.
RACE 2 :
1st four selection
1 / 3 / 5 / 2
• DUNCAN MCKENZIE – Number 2 – LORD BALMORAL : He has had excuses for his last two, improvement is expected and he can place.
• ALAN GREEFF – Number 3 – ALDO : He does prefer the Poly but has a place chance.
GRANT PADDOCK – Number 4 – ALWAHSH : He will run an improved race.
GAVIN SMITH – Number 6 – ROBBERG EXPRESS : He has his first run for the yard and is working well.
RACE 3 :
1st four selections
1 / 8 / 6 / 4
• ALAN GREEFF – Numbers 1 and 9 – FROSTY RAIN & SURF AND SAND : Frosty Rain is a nice filly and will run well if not too green. Surf and Sand will need the experience.
• GAVIN SMITH – Numbers 2, 6, 8 and 10 – GIFT OF PEACE, OH HEAVENLY, SUGAR GUM & TIME LAPSE : Gift of Peace will need the experience. Oh Heavenly ran a decent race on debut, she was slow away and will come on with that experience. Sugar Gum has been knocking and will be there again. Time Relapse is expected to be green.
SHARON KOTZEN – Number 3 – GOODBYE LOVE : This will be a run for experience, she does show pace at home but is expected to be wanting further.
MONTANA TURNER – Number 4 – GRANADILLA : She took her last run well and further improvement is expected.
JACQUES STRYDOM – Number 5 – MISS TIMPS : She has needed runs to bring her on, she is still very immature.
DUNCAN MCKENZIE – Number 7 – ROSE OF INDYA : If not too green she will run well.
RACE 4 :
1st four selections
7 / 8 / 1 / 9
• GAVIN SMITH – Numbers 1, 4, 5 and 8 – ALPIROD, FIND ME UNAFRAID, FORD WINTIE & WHAT A CRACKER : Alpirod is a nice colt and he can be thereabouts even though bred for further. Find me Unafraid is a nice colt, he is expected to be green and need further. Ford Wintie is a big colt, he is working well but is expected to need further. What a Cracker ran a decent race first time out and should be thereabouts.
• TARA LAING – Numbers 7 and 9 – WANGAN MIDNIGHT & WUHAN : Wangan Midnight must have a big shout here, he has run three very good seconds to date. Wuhan is a nice horse and could run a place.
MONTANA TURNER – Number 10 – ZA ZOO : He does need gelding so I am just hoping for a fair effort.
SHARON KOTZEN – Number 3 – CROISADE : He does show pace at home but will need further and this is an educational start.
JUAN NEL – Number 6 – PRIVATE INITIATIVE : He needed the gelding and though he does want further, he can put in a good effort and is capable of running into the money.
RACE 5 :
1st four selections
4 / 1 / 2 / 6
• ALAN GREEFF – Numbers 1 and 6 – MADAME SPEAKER & CHAKRI : Madame Speaker is consistent, the mile is her max and she does have work to do at the weights, but she always gives of her best. Chakri is also consistent and has a place chance.
• TARA LAING – Number 2 – MISS SMARTY PANTS : She ran a great race over shorter in her last and up in trip here must have a fair chance.
GAVIN SMITH – Numbers 3 and 7 – HIGH ALTAR & MATTINA : High Altar has her first yard for the yard, she does bump a tough field. Mattina is holding form, but also takes on stronger.
RACE 6 :
1st four selections
4 / 7 / 6 / 9
• ALAN GREEFF – Number 4 – GREEN LANTERN : He has fallen in the ratings and in an open field can show improvement.
• DUNCAN MCKENZIE – Number 6 – BELL TOWER : The mile is her favoured trip, she is in good form, is very well in herself and can be there.
SHARON KOTZEN – Number 10 – MAGNIFICUS : He has his post maiden run and is up against stronger. He also tries the mile so this will be a learning run.
TARA LAING – Number 12 – LEADMAN : He is racing off a break, but he loves this course and distance and is in with a shout.
JACQUES STRYDOM – Numbers 3, 9 and 13 – MAGIC MARY, SAMAR & CHESTNUT WILD : Magic Mary has run two great races over trips way too short for her and will be much better suited up to the mile, she will be competitive. The mile is sharp for Samar but he is in great form and always trying, he always has a chance. Hoping for improvement from Chestnut Wild.
GAVIN SMITH – Numbers 5 and 8 – MASTERFUL & HIDDEN INFLUENCE : Masterful is always in with a chance. Hidden Influence has his first run for the yard and is working well.
RACE 7 :
1st four selections
2 / 1 / 5 / 4
• CANDICE BASS-ROBINSON (comments prior to travel) – Number 1 – SAILING SHIP : She is a big, strong, powerful filly and she is decent. The question mark here will be if she sees out the mile, but I do feel she will if ridden conservatively and she is expected to be competitive.
• ALAN GREEFF – Numbers 2, 3, 7, 10 and 13 – LUNA WISH, BRANDINA, MISS JACKSONVILLE, PRINCESS KALISI, CALANDRA : Luna Wish is very consistent and she is in with a winning chance. Brandina never disgraces herself and she can find the frame. Miss Jacksonville ran a great race in her last and she could make her way in to quartets. Princess Kalisi takes on a lot tougher. Calandra also ran a good race in her last and even though out at the weights could also pop up for quartets.
SHARON KOTZEN – Number 8 – SCARBORUGH FAIR : She didn’t enjoy her last on Poly. Drawn well here and against her own age and sex, she hopefully can show improvement as she has not lost her ability, just her form.
GLEN KOTZEN (comments prior to travel) – Number 9 – AMERICAN PRINCESS : She’s lining up in the hopes of some black type. She has been a little disappointing and we did think she’d win her last start, but she does have potential and will enjoy the longer run in.
GRANT PADDOCK – Number 11 – MARGOT’S MAGIC : She is trying the mile which I really think she will enjoy and I am hopeful of a good run, though it is a very strong field.
TARA LAING – Number 12 – PALACE QUEEN : She is drawn badly in a very tough field, but could sneak into quartets.
MONTANA TURNER – Number 14 – WORLD SQUARED : She is very consistent and always gives of her best so I am expecting another good run.
RACE 8 :
1st four selections
2 / 11 / 5 / 1
• ALAN GREEFF – Numbers 1 and 11 – SILVERY HEIGHTS & GIACOMO : Silvery Heights has a chance here but she must jump. Giacomo is never far back and should be in the mix again.
• TARA LAING – Numbers 2, 6 and 12 – ARANJUEZ, THE SILVA FOX & STREETFIGHTING MAN : Aranjuez races off two good placings and must have a chance. The Silva Fox has been disappointing and does need a bit further. Streetfighting Man has also been disappointing, we are hoping for better and think he could run into the minor placings.
GAVIN SMITH – Numbers 3, 7 and 8 – KNIGHT OWL, SEATTLE SWING & TOM‘N JERRY : Knight Owl has his first for the yard, he is working well and could run into the back end of quartets. Seattle Swing enjoys track and trip, is working well and has a quartet chance. Tom ‘n Jerry is holding form nicely and will be thereabouts again.
SHARON KOTZEN – Number 4 – SWEET PRESERVE : She will enjoy the 2000m,she has been looking for some ground.
GRANT PADDOCK – Number 9 – SABASTIAN : He could find this on the short side, place chance.
JACQUES STRYDOM – Number 10 – KING CAPONE : He is in good form and definitely has a chance.
RACE 9 :
1st four selections
1 / 2 / 5 / 4
• TARA LAING – Number 5 – BOLD VIKING : He was very disappointing in his last but over the 1400m here must have a good chance.
• ALAN GREEFF – Number 2 – Numbers 2, 6 and 8 – KIMBERLEY STAR, VOICES OF LIGHT & FALCON ROCK : Kimberley Star is in good form and will be competitive. Likewise for Voices of Light. Falcon Rock could find this tough taking on a strong field out at the weights.
JUAN NEL – Number 4 – EARTH HOUR : He would be more effective over the mile but he is very well in himself, nice and fresh, he will run well and has a place chance.
GAVIN SMITH – Number 7 – PAPER TOWN : Has his first run after a break and is not expected to need it.
SHARON KOTZEN – Number 9 – QUERARI VIKING : He has needed runs to bring him on since back from a lengthy break. His rating has dropped and he is not without chance.
RACE 1
1st four selections
3 / 11 / 12 / 5
• TARA LAING – Numbers 4 and 11 – REAL RASCAL & BEETHOVEN : Real Rascal won his maiden well but is up against much stronger here, maybe a place chance. Beethoven found the 1400m a touch far in his last and back to the 1200m here he has a good chance.
• SHARON KOTZEN – Numbers 10 and 12 – ACE OF SPEED & FORTY DAYS : Both have their first runs for the yard. Ace of Speed could find this sharp. Forty Days races off fair Cape form and must have a chance.
JACQUES STRYDOM – Number 13 – ADIOS GRINGO : Hoping for improvement.
ALAN GREEFF – Numbers 1 and 6 – MIO GRANDE & TEOFILIA : Mio Grande needed his last and may still need another. Teofilia is always thereabouts.
DUNCAN MCKENZIE – Numbers 2 and 8 – WICKED GRIN & THOMAS TUCKER : Wicked Grin is back after the gelding, he hasn’t had a gallop, but needed the gelding, has taken it well and can improve. Thomas Tucker always tries, he has place chance again.
GRANT PADDOCK – Numbers 5 and 14 – VARSITY BOURBON & BURNT ROCK : Varsity Bourbon is working very well, he is a runner. Burnt Rock tries grass again.
GAVIN SMITH – Numbers 7 and 9 – TUNDRA & ROYAL FORT : Tundra is working well and could run into the back end of quartets. Royal Fort is expected to improve.
