SA's economy will never recover completely from this virus, even if we cancelled the lockdown tomorrow. The problem, though is that every additional day in lockdown simply multiplies and adds to the current state of economic destruction.
Whilst there are many, many areas which are dead quiet because lockdown is being adhered to, the sad truth is that in the majority of areas where the masses live and move in close quarters, lockdown is not being taken seriously at all. And the truth is that lockdown is more necessary right there than anywhere else.
So lockdown will not and cannot succeed.... not with a pass or adherence rate of 30 percent.
The irony is that the economy is being stuffed up by a "supposed" lockdown, such lockdown as is being massively ignored. Civil disobedience has become a way of life for so many for just too long in SA.
This is the same civil disobedience which became prevalent in SA Society, after Marikana, which has been cleverly used to garner millions of votes by our really lovely friend Julius. It has created a Society where the burning of trucks and looting is watched carefully by the Police, from a distance, their hands tied, as per instructions from Govt. A Society where lawbreakers are treated softly, where Police, even when their lives are threatened and their police vehicles are trashed or thrown over in front of their eyes, are not allowed to fire a shot. Our police may as well not carry arms.
Now, this same Society balances on the edge of mass destruction where theft, violence, looting and burning will be the order of the day. That day is fast approaching, with this lockdown and it is past the post, if any extended lockdown is enforced.
So we would he better off by not extending the lockdown. Thats because two wrongs just wont make a right. That's why.
This is SA, not UK or US or anywhere else. It is what it is.

Louis, you are 100% correct. As of 16 April the lock down should be terminated and people ENCOURAGED to stay at home and practise social distancing. If they do extend the lockdown I believe the riots and looting will become a reality and then extended by the criminal set to take advantage of the situation .... moving away from just liquor and foodstores to any shop / business etc ...
And that may well be the final nail in an economy that is already down for the count of two ....
Of course there is also the dark possibility that civil unrest (hooliganism actually) will claim more lives than the virus.

....today another total f@ck around....went to collect a ton 1000l pure alcohol(Ethanol 99%) that was on back order for 2 weeks....the price has increased by 50% since the lockdown but they had to honor pricing at which order was placed....the security(Bidvest Coin) tried to prevent me from entering the premises as I was not on the list....tried phoning them(the company) and calls that were supposed to be routed to remote sales people at home no one answered....then I lost my shIt and played the race card....demanded to see someone on site....he was not white....:S ..... meantime 5 trucks were let in before me and I was made to wait outside for an hour while they continued to ignore me....when I pull in these Bidvest guards some not properly uniformed and no masks nor gloves come over to me with a dinky lazer temp gauge from Dischem lean into me no mask and take temp from my forehead....he says it reads 38deg which is too high and I must leave....FFS I say I have been cooking in the sun for an hour so I go park in the shade and blast the aircon....they come in for another reading and 36deg and so called safe...non of the drivers before me had temps taken  I proceed to load but notice some dodge looking hillbillies mullets and camo clothing loading this raw alcohol too....here is a sideline business for getting industrial grade witblitz(moonshine) to those in need....
....I was very tempted to resell this as a 60% addition of H20 is Mainstay.......nothing like a skop from bluetop
...with coke good old spook n' diesel.... .

....I am a little more optimistic as the govt spin campaign seems to be working...as long as they can feed and look after their people that supported them in elections....we may just get through 21 days without a hitch....and those in the chemical sanitizing mask and glove industry are making money hand over fist.. ..but here the govt has no idea on putting the checks and balances in place....hand sanitizer is for government becoming a political currency and every different department and provincial govt departments are making uncoordinated attempts at acquiring these products en mass at highly inflated prices.....

The chap that spread the false news on Facebook re the testing kits being contaminated, was a class mate of mine in High School,I haven't kept in touch with this chap ,but a mate of mine who has sporadic contact with him says this guy has suffered severe personal trauma over the last 10 years or so.Remember him as a highly intelligent student, almost on a genius level.

The whole world’s economy is on its knees, not just South Africa’s. It is only people who keep an economy thriving, if there were no people who would care about the economy. If you take care of the people then the economy would take care of itself.

Economy is surely going to take a big knock. Those in retail especially unless you a supermarket, pharmacy or hospital and their suppliers. The rand depreciation is going to hurt heavily. Prices will have to go up because of this so inflation is going to soar. They talking about cutting interest rates, I’m not sure how that is going to go along together with a soaring inflation.
Only hope is someone comes along with the $100 Billion. Racing is going to be difficult to survive the time they gonna be closed, it will be up to the owners mainly.

Agreed. Massive inflation will be global. A tremendous amount of $, €, £ & ¥ is being created without the commensurate increase in the production of goods and services. Pay off as much of your debt now because the cost of money will soon be painful. Do not hold ZAR nor any other African or South American currency.

For me, the only way SA Racing can survive is to return to the club system just like Borrowdale and Ngong and plenty more.

Good morning all as we enter day 13 of 21 and can only say that if this lockdown is extended IMO it will be a disaster.
Thank you for your inputs and contributions at this stage.
We did leave the house yesterday for the first time but only took a drive to see if other people did exist?
The roads were very quiet but the both shopping centres appeared busy, p and p and spar.
We then just drove home without leaving the car.
I keep the stats up to date on the Covid19 thread and still waiting to see what happens with the predicted jump in SA figures?
Maybe we can hope that the size of SA and sunshine might have a formula to keeping the numbers at bay?
Mac and myself could do with some help on the Ascot /imoji thread, i think we have 8 of the 14?
As far as songs for today, trying to cater for the pessimists and optimists.
I remember many years ago I had an LP " songs to commit suicide to" probably a bit like being tied to a chair and forced to listen to Abbas greatest hits for 24 hrs?
I remember a particular song Eve of Destruction, it was based on war these days.
The other was a Python song which is still the most popular at funerals.
