Half Stakes
5 years 2 months ago
Zero Stakes
NO PRBOBLEM.......
BUT the people that have gotten racing into the financial mess that it is in CANNOT be allowed to continue working in the industry. The inner circle cannot be the ones leading us out of the dark times.
I am begging every owner in the land to withdraw their authority to act asap. Let's make sure that when we continue supporting this sport by racing for zero or half stakes or what ever it is that when the good times come round again the money stays in our sport.
Let's make sure not another share dividend is ever paid again or an asset sold to prop up stakes.
Let's get proper racing people in charge and run the rats to the water asap.
Let's use this Lockdown to our advantage.
THEY KNOW we will race for less because we love it. BUT we cannot just accept that. We must NOT EVEN rely on the RA whom represents a fraction of owners.
We have time on our hands now to get this movement going.
IM BEGGING you to not let them get away with it again.

Easy, if they touch the stakes again Im out the game for good. Nobody is cutting salaries and expenses but the owner must. There is no respect for the owners and punters funding this "fuck-up" happening before my eyes. Throwing good money after bad. I for one cant see how they will come back from this situation.
My list as an owner:
Management (clueless how to run the show but know how to pay themselves)
MR system (fucked up any chance of enjoying an above average horse)
Stakes (peanuts)
Vet bills ( no regulation on fees and a free for all when it comes to charging)
NHRA (toothless bunch of gatkruipers )
Jockeys (weakest average group of jocks ever in SA bordering on pathetic)
Training costs
Breeding costs
RA (Why would anybody be a member?)
Zero enjoyment
Communication (zero transparency)
ETC
With all these negatives and more why would anybody want to own a racehorse ?
Im not a king I must be a ...........!!!!

Sure they announced this before the actual lockdown
The TV deal PGE set up and soccer money makes up 60% of the National Stakes pot seemingly ... And I can’t see Social distancing ending for 6 months or so..
So not sure how quick if ever the deal will start up again
We might end up with a very diluted racing calendar..

Sad how a bunch of imbiciles could be given such free reign for so long and very few who could have had a say actually stood up.
The industry is stuffed here and you got to be brain dead or have money to throw away to own a horse in this country.
Like Neigh said, most things about our racing is third class at best and it needs a major overhaul.
Nothing can or will be done to the people who brought our game to it's knees, they laughing all the way to the bank and the major losers here will be the average trainer or jockey who can't ply their trade in another country.
Punters have plenty better options to bet and 90% of owners will have a better bank balance at the end of the month.
A once prosperous industry gone to the dogs through greed, corruption and incompetence.

Cant stage a coup.
Ive posted this message on every single SA related media site and the ONLY "like" i got was from Andrew Fortune.
Which is disappointing because as we know trainers make up a large % of owners themselves BUT solidarity is non existent. Seems as usual its each man for himself.

I think most of us here have been expressing these type of 'concerns' for the last 10 years or so - and just to put forward one example, the RA have continued on their merry way, I assume backed by the funds in the Racing Trust - now everything seems to be coming to a grinding halt - too late to do anything, the culprits have (mostly ?) come and gone .... a microcosm of our government .... whose decisions in the same period imo have led to a currency heading towards 20-1 against the greenback - and maybe worse to come
However, always a bright side, I think there will be plenty of quality youngsters on offer at bargain basement prices ... spare a thought though for many more unfortunate ones who will find their way to the slaughter house
For those 'stupid' enough to get involved as owners - maybe the goals need adjustment - racing for enjoyment and not any perceived profit will be the name of the game - and not too much wrong with that

With vet fees and whatever else you could be paying R15 000 a month just to feed and train the horse and that's without firstly buying the horse.
With that money you could go to a neighbouring country and a have an all inclusive holiday for a week every month.
Would you rather try look like an 'important' person and go to the race course once or twice a month or broaden your mind and see some beautiful places on this earth?

To each his own .... and if you think 'looking important' is what is about, I suggest you try it first before making 'stupid' statements ..... for me it is about choices .... you make yours, and I make mine (and visiting a 'neighboring country' is not that high on my bucket list); you may think mine is 'stupid' - that's your opinion - and I'll withhold mine

Of course Frodo.
My uncle owned horse so yes I have had the feel of going to the training tracks and being in the parade ring. It's fun but to me it's definitely not worth that kind of money.
And as for the 'looking important' statement it's meant more for people like Markus Jooste and company who got into horse racing to try look like a king and to boost his own ego and in so doing effed up the whole industry for everyone.

Re: Re:Half Stakes

Reading these comments it seems to me that all the trainers in this industry are not on the same page or maybe just dont agree with what actions need to be taken. It seems that many of the trainers are also not sure what is happening with the RAs initiative to help feed grooms. I was led to believe the RA was there to look after the interest of the owners many of which happen to be trainers. It would seem that owners and trainers would have to stand together to get any of these issues resolved. I'm not sure what the RA has really done for the owners (its members) or even if its really even worth being a member. We all know how a band of well intentioned owners were labelled " the lunatic fringe " when trying to remove the previous leader and contrite boxer who was actually part of that group initially. Is MDK not on the RA board? Whilst I dont always agree with Easy I think he may be right on this one. Once again it's of course just my opinion .
