Change of Surface - Bookie Bets
5 years 1 month ago
To my knowledge once the surface of the race is changed like from turf to poly/sand all bets struck prior to the change should be refunded. Yesterday Gulfstream Race 6 after a heavy downpour before the race the surface was then changed to dirt from turf. The favorite of the race, Azrael, ran off the board after a whole lot of scratchings after the downpour. The trainer of Azrael, C Brown, is known for his turf exploits.

Definitely saw that it was changed a good few hours before the off
Not sure if many bookies had priced up before the announcement

This surface change is common at GP. Even on Wed first 2 races were ran on dirt but were turf races. I ve nt seen the wagering terms and conditions at GP but i guess this refund doesnt apply as long the races carry on.

According to Equibase Race 6 and Race 9 was only changed to turf at 15.10 USA Eastern Time. Thereafter 10 minutes later trainers scratched due to off turf. Race 6 in particular, you will see the scratchings due to off turf qualified for the Pick 3. Note in USA the Pick 3 you do not get the Tote favorite but you need to have the other two winners to get a payout if your horse is a late scratching.
