Not just a scribble, a full abbreviation.

I put R10 win on Classic Flag. My pink ticket just read: CF

They went by ticket number you would say to the bookie give me say 100/10 on Yardmaster and the bookie would Scribble as you say and shout out to his clerk ticket nr 25 100/10 Yardmaster and the clerk would write it down on a huge piece of paper By the end of the day I am sure millet clerks suffered from carpet tunnel

Politician the last horse to win the Met and July in the same year in 1978, the year I was born in. Like Politician, I won the ABC Met and July tipping competition in 2016 to complete a memorable double :cheer:

brings back memories these were still the best cards and Computerforms with the photo finishers etc. Today you cannot even get a decent race card. Computerforms are not the same amymore either. I even notice in Cape times argus voice no racing in it anymore.

Wow.....1970 ...And 3 meetings across 2 provinces.
To be honest I never did buy or study a Duff's Turf Guide ever.

First it was the newspapers, then the race cards, then the SA Racing Mirror for local meetings.
Thereafter it was Computaform for all the meetings countrywide when out of province tote betting became available. And the Sporting Post to a lesser extent much later.

Computaform was the best by far.
It gave you the edge especially for out of province meetings.

Three meetings across two provinces?
In the 80’s into the 90’s there were up to six meetings on any given Saturday:
Tvl, WC, EC, Natal, OFS, GriquaW (every other Sat). Throw in Borrowdale on a Sat and Ascot (Byo) on a Sunday.
Yes, those were the days.
