Chief National Covid-19 Compliance Officer

The National Horseracing Authority (NHA) confirms that in line with its commitment to ensuring the safety of all the participants, it has established extensive Covid-19 Protocols and Procedures, for the Resumption of Racing behind closed doors.

This document has been carefully considered using international best practice, in addition to considering our own requirements according to Government Protocols.

The NHA has appointed Mr Arnold Hyde, Racing Control Executive, as the Chief National Covid-19 Compliance Officer, to facilitate that these Protocols and Procedures are strictly adhered to, ensuring that Racing is conducted behind closed doors in a responsible and safe environment for all Stakeholders. All enforcement officers report directly to the Chief National Covid-19 Compliance Officer.

The NHA has assembled a panel of dedicated and appropriately qualified people to its Covid-19 Surveillance in Racing Panel, which includes Miss Hazel Kayiya (NHA Racing Administration Executive), the NHA Investigating Officer, Mr Riaan Janse van Rensburg, the Chief Stipendiary Stewards in the respective regions, Messrs Lyle Anderson (Highveld), Ernie Rodrigues (Western Cape) and Deanthan Moodley (KwaZulu-Natal), the Racing Operators’ Health and Safety Personnel, Messrs George Shirinda (Highveld), Preston Chetty (KwaZulu-Natal) and Mrs Faeeza Heuvel (Western Cape) and Medical Experts, which include Dr Schalk de Kock (NHA Laboratory Director), Dr Richard Albrecht and Professor Ian Sanne (Highveld), Dr Poobalan Pillay (KwaZulu-Natal), Dr Jan Lapere (Eastern Cape) and Mr Adrian Todd (Western Cape – Managing Director, South African Equine Health Protocols).

The National Horseracing Authority will carefully monitor this Protocols model and may make amendments if and when necessary.

Attached are some pictures of racing behind closed doors at the Vaal Racecourse on 2 June 2020 for interested parties who are currently not able to attend race meetings.

The NHA advises that Jockeys Hennie Greyling & Brian Nyawo have returned positive Covid-19 Genetic results. They are feeling healthy, showing no current symptoms & are unlikely to get sick. Any person that has come into contact with these persons should self-isolate if showing any symptoms themselves.

It is required by law to declare your infection for the safeguarding of others...

I see they are both “unavailable“ on Monday

Hopefully there is no huge outbreak among the grooms

I warn the industry to not jump into the deep end first and I take stick and abuse, well now they know why I was saying that!

They are going to get racing closed

Tuesday at the Vaal

“Danielson gets off his ride at start and hands his colors to Apprentice Matsunyane .

What about Jockeys sharing colors?”

I heard the other day a jockey on some interview talking about having been screened and temperature taken last weekend.Seriously!, Do they think that’s what was meant by taking two weeks to get ready and tested, that’s what other sports are having to do. I can guarantee you that there are more positives. Do our main players, the jockeys get the all clear from pick n pay door as you enter and temp taken.Taking ones temperature means hardly anything. When anyone gets the virus then the rest of staff need to be checked, it’s not responsible if the Nhra havent urgently notified the correct health department as that is the rules. Try find a open nedbank in the western cape, I even phoned head office and they read me a list of 4 branches in a large part of cpt that is still open as they said that that the infected branches were dealing with health care and testing as their staff are getting the virus and everyone needs to be seen to.

If danielson handed colours to another jockey at the start then I’m sorry,I have no sympathy. I haven’t seen anything on sporting post over these positives and incidents but from what it looks like is that they trying to be part of the new racing media and that comes with a price and now their articles can’t really expose some going ons and have disabled comments on majority of their articles.
