Pools!!
5 years 2 weeks ago
Now maybe the the new guard will sit up and take notice of how important the small punters who frequent off course facilities actually contribute towards everyone else earning a living. Today's PA pool with no totes open couldnt make 200k. This being month end , a major center, and stand alone meeting.
Can we expect them to fix up these outlets and have friendly enthusiastic staff.. I wonder. The P6 will barely get to 300k. Personally this game cannot survive without these outlets and todays pools confirm this. Let's hope this is a wake up call.

I agree! A good wake up call to look after every punter. Good luck without them. Today’s pools show the truth regarding the punters.

I'm also hearing that neither the 2 main daily's The Mercury or The Daily News had fields of any type of write ups about todays first meeting back. That is poor imo.

I deposited money via EFT into tab account this morning. Till now it has not reflected. I think there is a problem with system...hence low pools. Nobody answers phone...so much for service!

Miss T thank you for that post. I have warned them to get racing ready and not to rush. But obviously they know far better as usual, and cannot tolerate any other views except their own.

Guys this is why the operators were scared to race...
If the branches don`t open racing will be gone!
Unfortunately the bookmaker associations when through official channels and the gambling boards couldn`t decide whether they had permission to race or not and are waiting on a reply from the government.

Have they attempted to negotiate something with the bookmakers in this time of need. I stay close to the tote that I go to, in the last 2 weeks I have bumped into 3 of the regulars who never had a account before as they are part of the totes daily furniture.2 of them opened a Hollywood account and one wsb.i asked why they never got a tab account and 2 said that it seemed difficult and always hear of people waiting on payment, the other one said he got the Hollywood account as he thought they were part of the tote as they even have the racecourses named after them.
Quite sad because a lot of people will learn how easy it is to play online so even when totes do open a major amount of people will still play online and pools wont get back to where they were.
Maybe they should have waited and in the long run it would be better. The pools today might pay for 30% of stakes and will put them in worse position

Correct Oscar and Bob they seem to forget the R6 punter and to dismiss them as unimportant but this clearly shows what contribution these punters make. I'm guessing of course but based on what we see today they would seem to make up anywhere between 30 to 40% of the pools maybe even more. But remember Oscar we are Keyboard Warriors according to a certain trainer. However it makes no difference what name goes above these posts the facts are there for all to see. Why anyone thinks if Miss T says it its bullshit, but if i put Robin at the top it's worth more or means more to whoever, is beyond me. Like you say Oscar its time that they just start listening for the good of the game going forward. Also if it's TRUE that the Durban press never even published the fields for today ..that's worrying.

Some very good points above, we must also consider, the huge dent in the economy and drop/loss of earnings to many SA citizens.
As far as proper names, we have also been there, done it, got the T shirts.
If the intentions are to change names from Malcom X to John Smith its a futile exercise, unless you go the FICA route and not just window dressing.
The important issue is the actual “content” of the contribution.
It’s never easy to run an open 24/7 site and always make the correct call.
We have stopped or banned many posts/posters to the detriment of traffic to site.

My own personal bet is the Pick 6.
My point here is that I play the Pick 6 because THERE IS A LOT OF DEAD MONEY in the pool. The R6 punter is the guy I rely upon because he is not taking a bet, he is merely buying hope. Its okay to buy hope, that's what lottery tickets are. Me, I prefer taking a calculated risk called a bet. Why would I be stupid enough to play a R300k pool with mostly 'inside' money? Marketing to and getting the 'man on the street' back betting into Tote pools is the most important thing that is needed.
I wont be taking a bet until the pools increase and the dead money/ R6 punter returns

It is not only the numbers of small cash punters at the totes whose actual addition to the pools that is causing a problem. What is really missing is the cash laundering syndicates that put really big money through the outlets.
Those okes mainly foreigners that sit around punting the late scratchings and odds on place bets. Also big investors in local soccer4 &6 pools.

And in the owner’s side we are missing the odd big investor like Marcus Jooste.
Gosh, I just realised that racing actually needs criminals back in the game to function...
