The hill at the end got the better of her. Great run and all concerned can be really proud of the effort.

Was run at Newmarket. Transferred there because of the rain. Don't know anything about the track.

The track record was broken by more than a second.

Looks like National Colour and Borderlescott will face each other again in the Abbaye on Arc day.

No uphill finish at York, but there is a shallow end and a deep end. Don't think the result would have been different if run at York as originally planned.

BORDERLESCOTT finally made the breakthrough his talents deserve when providing trainer Robin Bastiman and jockey Pat Cosgrave with their biggest career success when smashing the course record in the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes.

With a tailwind, the record of 57.32 set by Rambling Bear in 1999 was bettered by the first seven home but Bastiman's stable star took 1.23secs off the time when blistering through in 56.09secs.

National Colour had taken up the running from Captain Gerrard at halfway under Kevin Shea but Cosgrave soon had the leader in his sights on the 12-1 shot and Borderlescott kept on strongly to lead well inside the final furlong for a half length success.

Bastiman said: "I'm delighted he's in the Ayr Gold Cup but will probably have too much weight and will probably go for the Prix de L'Abbaye. I am thinking of handing in my licence in January and handing over to my daughter Rebecca."

Kevin Shea, rider of runner-up National Treasure, said: "I have never been so fast in my life."

John Best will send the third Kingsgate Native for the Sprint Cup at Haydock next.

The winner's time was 56.09sec (-1.71secs inside the Racing Post standard time of 57.80secs)

She really is a special horse. Thanks for the pick Scotia. She will win next time out.

Imo she would have won if it was not for the hill. She would have got away from them. Remember how she tired over the Scottsville 6f. The hill almost makes it a 6f race. She is a 5f specialist imvho

just watched race for 1st time and couldn't agree more, flat 5f next time out and will be very hard to beat, great early and mid race speed.
