TURFFONTEIN STANDSIDE 25/07/2020 FORMGUIDES, SELECTIONS, PERMUTATIONS
R1
Preview: LION CRUISE (10) ran a fine race in the SA Nursery and gets 3kg from the winners. SOUTH EAST (2) has plenty of pace but on formlines and weights looks well held by Lion Cruise. ENTER SANDMAN (1) won well on debut and has scope for further improvement. (David Thiselton 10-2-1)
R2
Preview: GREENS (2) gets the blinkers on and has a chance on her fair effort in the SA Nursery. TOTO (4) can go close if repeating her last start although a low draw can be a concern on this track. ONLY THE BRAVE (11) is 3kg better off with Toto for a 4,50 length beating and should improve on that debut effort. (David Thiselton 2-4-11)
R3
Preview: AL MADHAR (1) impressed on debut over this distance and can follow up. BOLD RESOLVE (4) finished second to a promising sort on debut over 1400m and can improve over this trip. PURE SOUTH (9) can improve and has a place chance on form albeit from a wide draw. (David Thiselton 1-4--9)
R4
Preview: CLOTH OF ICE (2) won in eyecatching style second time out and is drawn in pole over the same course and distance. ANYTHING GOES (1) is promising and attempts to go three runs unbeaten over a suitable step up in trip but she does have a wide draw and has to give Cloth Of Ice 2kg. SACRED LOTUS (3) is drawn well and looks to be progressive. (David Thiselton 2-1-3)
R5
Preview: IDEAL ANGEL (10) was green on debut over this course and distance but managed to run on from last for third and although there is little between her and Aflame on formlines she could possibly have more scope for improvement being a big, rangy type, plus she is drawn in pole too. AFLAME (1) had a tough draw last time over this trip and was carried out briefly when starting her run but still managed to run on strongly thereafter for third, so can do well here with Strydom staying aboard from a good draw. FLOWER SEASON (2) is always thereabouts and should enjoy this course and distance. (David Thiselton 10-1-2)
R6
Preview: ESKIMO KISSE$S (1) is in fine form and should have come on from her last start. UPCLOSEANDPERSONAL (7) has her third run after a layoff and should start coming into her own now. ANN BOLEYN (6) has her third run after a layoff and comes off a win but is only 1kg better off for a two length beating by Eskimo Kisses and the number one draw could be a concern. (David Thiselton 1-7-6)
R7
Preview: RAINBOW BRIDGE (2) is top class and not only has the champion jockey elect aboard but is well drawn and has had success lately with more positive tactics so looks the one to beat. GOT THE GREENLIGHT (13) could be better than his form suggests as he tends to take the foot off the pedal when he hits the front. TIERRA DEL FUEGO (11) stayed all the way to the line in the Champions Challenge and has a lot of stamina in his female line so as a relatively unexposed sort over this trip and being from the yard of the champion trainer he is the dark horse. DO IT AGAIN (18) has shown signs he could bounce back to his best and his versatility should allow him to overcome a wide draw so he can go close considering he gets a 1kg weight swing with Rainbow Bridge in his favour despite beating him narrowly last year. BUNKER HUNT (14) looks to have come into his own and stayed on well enough in the Met for fifth to suggest he will get the trip. BELGARION (17) was impressive in the WSB 1900 and has a definite winning chance but on the downside he does like to stride out and risks being caught wide from a wider draw. VARDY (9) has a stamina question mark but possesses an exhilarating turn of foot so if he stays he could emerge the winner. (David Thiselton 2-13-11-18-14-17-9)
R8
Preview: SHIVERS (5) carries 1kg overweight but according to official merit ratings is the best weighted runner and being by Silvano is still on the up. SILVER GOD (3) is capable of winning this from a fair draw. ZOUAVES (1) has never won over this trip but in this fast going from a good draw can go close. (David Thiselton 5-3-1)
R9
Preview: FAST DRAW (2) is knocking on the door and is drawn in pole with Strydom up. IMPERIAL MASTER (12) stayed on behind a promising sort on debut over this trip and with expected improvement should be right there. WHAT A WHAT (14) has run two good races and could earn again. (David Thiselton 2-12-14)
