World Sports Betting take on the Gold Cup, Mercury Sprint & Champions Cup

Media Release from Gold Circle

Prosport International and Gold Circle are pleased to welcome World Sports Betting as the headline sponsor for the 100th running of the Gold Cup on Saturday 29th August. The World Sports Betting Gold Cup is South Africa’s premier race for stayers and traditionally brings the curtain down on Champions Season in KZN. World Sports Betting will also sponsor the Gr1 Mercury Sprint over 1200m and the Gr1 Champions Cup over 1800m, the outcomes of which could be significant insofar as the Equus Awards are concerned.

“The Prosport and Gold Circle teams have done a fantastic job to make sure the centennial running of the Gold Cup takes place no matter the challenges, and it’s an honour for us to come on board as a sponsor,” said World Sports Betting Marketing Manager, Ryno Du Plessis. “The prestigious Champions Cup has run with our name attached to it before, but to include the Gold Cup and Mercury Sprint is hopefully the start of something bigger for WSB in the KZN racing arenas. WSB takes pride in being the leading bookmaker for local racing and patrons can always rely on us to price up first and with the most competitive odds. Anyone who hasn’t done so yet is welcome to register now at www.wsb.co.za and Bet with the Best,” Du Plessis added.

Well done WSB.
I’m confused, does the Mercury Sprint not have a sponsor already ie. The Mercury newspaper ?
Or will it now be called the WSB sprint?
Otherwise we may have to start calling the showpiece The Vodacom Rothmans July.

Couldn't agree more, this is exactly what is not needed when you want to introduce a new young cavalry to the industry. FFS, just keep it plain and simple.

I prefer this system. The rest of the country must catch a wake up and follow KZN.
