Thoughts on a card that should give punters a chance
R1: A bit of a guessing game imo - Ululate tries ground which she should enjoy on breeding, but too many unknows for met to get involved
R2: Another trappy Maiden with lightly raced runners; Trumps Express improved 2nd start, but is out of a Var mare, so 1600 a question mark; Syds Liason looks the stable elect, but comes back after a break - form form his first start does not look that great - I think I will put in a few in the BP to try and beat him out of the first 2
R3: Competitive Grad Plate for just-turned 3 yr olds - many of these should be on the up, so not easy; Catch Twentytwo's form looks good to me and gets weight from the winners, should prefer the step up to 1400, so my first choice; Kingsley's Heart with the apprentice allowance maybe 2nd best and also will have no issues with the distance - but on collateral form seems well held by Catch Twenty Two; Shah Akbar out of a Galileo mare, so should still find this a bit on the sharp side, but could feature as well; the other Maiden winners needs to improve more imo at the weights, while Karnallie is yet to show that he gets the trip
R4: Master Supreme at these weights looks hard to oppose - should hold Western Front on the SA Classic form - and may have found the Derby trip too far; both Finchatton and Shogun are old hands and can not be completely ignored should Master Supreme not bring his A-game
R5: Fillies & More - as per usual difficult to predict - but there are a few here that really seem unlikely to trouble the judge; obvious ones are Littlewood and Curvation; Consol Queen comes out of a Maiden win, but on a line through Dance Class there should not be much between her and Littlewood; others to consider imo are Glamorous Scandal, The Sash, and Dancewithadragon, while Emerald Bay has some useful earlier form, but obviously needs to improve many lengths on her last run
R6: American Indian good last win and my clear first choice - on that last win should hold Secret Potion again; nothing between Top Shot and Dromedaris on their last start, so both should be thereabouts; dark horse here could be Lord Silverio, but he is yet to prove that he stays 2400
R7: Equivalent of Race 3, but this time for the females; for me I think the betting is wrong - with the 4kg apprentice allowance, I prefer Elusive Woman to War of Athena; danger could be Only the Brave, but again these are lightly-raced young 3yr olds, so an upset not impossible
R8: Another Fillies and More, and this one is even more open imo, obvious ones are Mamaquera and Malteza, but there are plenty with chances, including big-priced runners like Zulu Dawn and Viscountess Vivien
R9: Need to take a chance somewhere, and I fancy Welsh Harp; form in early 2019 good enough to beat these imo; 3rd run after a long break following an encouraging last effort; very good value at the odds imo; the competiion includes hard-knockers like Category Four (1600 I think a stretch) and Smoke (same applies imo); biggest danger imo to my selection is Western Oasis (also holds Category Four on the run behind Bassam), but he is coming off a break and is drifting in the market; another to consider imo is Oh Mercy Me - but if Welsh Harp fails, anything can happen
Enjoy

I must say, watching the Turffontein race straight after the Kranji race made me realize how boring our races are.

So what you're saying, Pirho, is that we are guaranteed to have a carryover?
