The Good vs The Wood

Entertaining developments going around on SM and Sporting Post with James Goodman taking Hollywood on over a bet placed almost a month ago.

All for constructive debate but the personal attacks on Devin have soured me to what should have been a worthwhile discussion.

I will say though, that I thoroughly enjoyed the whinging mail by Tony Mincione. He even provided a ' How to ' guide on what to do in the situation where an operator makes a blatant error and you want to conceal it by adding in other short priced markets around the incorrect market in multiples so that it will slip under the radar.

Must say he is quite well versed on the subject - but I'm sure he has never tried that tactic with an online bookmaker before ...... ever.

My gripe here is why didn't Hollywood void the bet after a few days when they surely found out that they had the wrong price.
They waited till it was finished before voiding the bet.
If Wigan would have stayed up would Hollywood have refunded James or would they have kept his money, that is the answer I would like to know.

And as many where saying the way Tony Mincione dealt with it calling James names, was very unprofessional.

Look, what the Good done was chancing his arm when he knew the price was wrong in error... I`ve personally done things like that myself...

But when he never got paid he should have just moved on.... And said oh well

Does Tony not work for the SP or HW? His mail is out of order as well if he still does!

I did see on Facebook a couple of weeks ago.

My take is as follows and let me just keep names aside.

I feel there is an "unwritten code of conduct" between the punter and his bookie.
It was closer in the old days and possibly with on-line betting is not as strong as it was.

We all want to beat the bookies and be shrewd .

In this case the punter took 100/1 on a 5/10 knowing he was taking a chance.

This was a genuine mistake from the bookies side, by not taking his board down or correcting the market after points deduction.

The time delays is a smoke screen as its normal to close markets properly after season ends.

In summary:

The bet was always a bet taken with an element of chance ( a bit of a chancer) the punter should have done the honorable thing and walked away with a slightly red face.

I understand that evens was settled by the bookie to the punter.

IMVHO

A fair outcome and both parties should shake hands and carry on as racing has enough bad press to handle.

Good (or fair) punting.
