INQUIRY TRAINER MR M L ROBERTS


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 14 August 2020, Trainer Mr M L Roberts was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.3. The particulars being that he was the trainer of the horse STATUTE, from which a specimen taken prior to the running of the 6th Race at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 20 June 2020, disclosed upon analysis the presence of Flunixin, a prohibited substance (classified as a class 4 substance in terms of the Guidelines).

The Board entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of Mr M L Roberts, however, he was found guilty as charged. After considering all the evidence in this matter, in particular that this was a second offence of this nature, the Board imposed a fine of R34 000. In addition, in terms of Rule 72.3.2, STATUTE is disqualified from the said race.

Mr Roberts has the right of appeal against the finding and the penalty imposed.

I remember Mr Roberts hanging around the paddock...trying to score a loose...so that his horse could finish 12th...and he could screw the public...WTF

Any truth in the rumour that the NHRA have been testing less recently due to lack of cash?

If the NHA stopped releasing one sided press releases / blurbs there would be a far better perception of racing.

I'm not a vet and have no idea what Flunoxin does but a quick Google (great tool people, use it please) tells me that this is an anti-inflammatory (so immediately tells me could have been used for anything really) and is NON STEROIDAL while also used for musculoskeletal disorders)

Also has some use with applications needed for pain relief in colic cases.

If trainer comment from inquiry was included we might have a better idea. Tell us why the banned substance was found in the sample. Date the horse was treated, who treated etc. Sometimes these positives, which everyone jumps on and slates racing and the skullduggery for, are just simple errors in maths and working out withdrawal periods.
