Buy In Competition - Request for rule amendment
5 years 5 days ago
I have had a few requests to change the manner of scoring for our buy in competitions to ensure that the most consistent tipster is competitive.
I have thought about it long and hard and decided that any competition run by me will retain the old rules.... and in fact the 'bonus' for win , 2nd and 3rd will no longer apply.
Straight tote win and place .... one double selection of your choice
My rationale is as follows...
We punt to make money .... not to show how good a tipster or consistent we are. Hence the punter who makes the most money on the day will be the winner...80% strike rate or one 100/1 fluke
As opt in is voluntary I assume this is acceptable.
29 August I will happily host a buy in competition should there be enough interest

I am biased of course, but I agree on the format - a punting competition should be about who can generate the most profit - and I will gladly give the members of the Clan the opportunity to profit from my entry fee - so I am in

Consistent or profit ?
5 winners on a day and make R1000
2 winners on a day and make R2500
Who’s the winner?

SUGGESTION - player either selects every race or selects in 3 races including the double - this way the punter that increases his odds in reality by playing only selected races for a profit, rather than punting just for the sake of it, is given a fair shout against a random 25-1 selection.
So 9 races
race 1 R500 (ew as per rules already in place) Excalibur 2
race 7 Met - VARDY (includes compulsary dbl)
race 9 R300(ew as per rules) Dumass 5
I personally think punting every race will lead to the poor house or Gambler's Anon (unless you are using Robot software)

Like Mr H's irea - something like player is given a bank of 2k and he can spend it as he wants, but on, say, at least 3 races

I have thought about this option and I believe I ran a competition like this a good few years ago. For me the scoring becomes a nightmare, especially if there are dozens of entries.... so I wont run a comp with these rules... but if anyone does I would enter.

The competition is designed for fun and to see who ends up with the largest profit from hypothetical bets. Punt as you see fit on the day in any format you like but the comp is just that, a comp with simple rules and your getting on average 15/1 odds. Besides that, the entertainment value far exceeds the entry fee.
