If the pools are that small it’s even easier to manipulate, with much less risk – the point is it happens and is allowed to happen.
WTF takes a bet and then cancels it AFTER the jump – as what happened for apparently the fav still showed 2.30 at the jump – an ordinary person does not have access to this facility and even online accounts cannot access this feature after the jump

The only rule I know about, is tote rule 2.23.4:
Alteration of Bets - No bets may be altered after they have been accepted.

The reason there is this rule is probably that it would cause chaos if not in place.

Where does it say that bets under R500 can be cancelled? – Probably nowhere.

If there is a bet cancel feature for online punters, what about other punters?

I asked someone with an online account about this feature – she can’t even find it.
Why not change the rule for EVERYBODY?, or enforce it for everybody

It’s like corruption only been prosecuted if you are not a member of a certain party

I know those are the rules oncourse fingers.
And muhtiman says there is a cancel feature online, probably with tabonline don't think Tabgold have it but remember you could always phone in and cancel your bet just before the off of the race.

.....yes there was once a rule that bets over R500 taken at tote terminals had to get an operator phone in to TAB HO to cancel or have an on site supervisor approve cancellation.....however some of the many tote agencies were able to do cancellations with no reporting....in one case in Sandton an operator was taking phone in bets from certain high rolling customers.....mainly large P6 perms.....then cancelling them and pocketing the stake when they came to settle
.....an oke actually caught the P6 and when he came to collect all he got was a cancelled ticket.....

But if it's the tote Muhti surely you have to have money in your account to take the bet in the first place and if the operator cancels the bet then the money will be refunded back to your account so how where they actually pocketing the money?

I used to play years ago at an Agency situated in a bar- the owner would allow punters that he knew well to take bets on credit(phone in and call your bets to the teller ) then later that day you would pay for the bets when you went to the bar. I'm sure that's the type of arrangement Muhti is talking about except here the teller is cancelling the bets before they run and taking the cash - In my case we were given our bets in a plastic bank packet so nothing untoward happened

The one in I'm referring to just down the road from the Supreme Courts? - The owner and I used to faithfully play combined PA perms daily - Good days there with big wins

.....the point being is that TAB/tote has become delinquent by not being managed properly and all sorts of shenanigans going on which undermines the punters who go elsewhere to punt.....it needs to be fixed in order to get punters back....PHUM spread themselves too thin by trying to take on bookies and had faulty product managed by clueless overpaid management.....instead of trying to do best by concentrating efforts on finding solutions to streamline the tote they went off on a tangent and tried to dictate terms to bookie controlled betting outlets.....failed
miserably and landed up going to war in a tank with a faulty engine.....they became a sitting duck and began to lose turnover revenue then made bigger mistakes by buying themselves into bookmaking and then over paying to try be the big boys..:S ...time to start over.... let the bookies get a decent chop of tote turnovers and they may stop offering the open bet.....

Agreed they will have to do a deal with the bookies on the open bet for racing to continue. Also they need a retail expert to revamp the disgrace the totes have become. Its all one big rush one minute before the race to get a tote bet on in the Private Suite area, so imagine when you go to an outlying areas.

Betting is already under huge pressure worldwide due to the economies, it won't be any different here, eagerly awaiting "the magic plan" to save racing.

The big question is what would make bookies give up the open bet, it's free money for them. I doubt they will give it up for the good of racing.
