I'm a firm believer in horse behaviour...when they are not happy, you can virtually cancel you bet...because 90% of the time they just won't run

Like the one horse in Gauteng not long ago that reared in the pens,vet checked it and gave it the all clear only for the horse to lag at the back of the field and eventually the jockey pulled it up.
The vets need to check the horses properly and if in any doubt scratch the horse as it could actually end up injuring itself.

It's a difficult area...the vet can only go with what they see...sometimes they don't even see the initial event so don't have any insight into the cause...
Also, some connections want the horse to race and others don't under these conditions...
There needs to be a more cut and dried method of making the decision to scratch at the start...

Yes,you play up in the stalls you scratched.
You break through the stalls you scratched full stop.
This will protect the horse and punter and make the trainers bring their horses to the track properly schooled.
