Lets put this into perspective as an example. I gave my share away in a gelding at the age of 7, he race up and till a month ago and was retired at 9. His last race he ran 3rd. He earned about R530 000 (7 wins +- 26 places). Great innings !! Fantastic !! Ok now for the costs; (all +-) Keep R510 000 ; Vet bills R100 000 ; Cost to breed etc R180 000 Sundries R20 000 Total of +- R810 000. Most of his income was at the old stake rates.
Who made money out of the horses career ? Dare I say the trainers, vets, grooms, jocks, transport companies, Gold Circle, Phumelela, feed companies, bookies and maybe punters.
As I always say owners are donors. Now even more with the stakes as they are.
I must be a mug to own horses. ( My wife says I am  :pinch: )

Has to be a buyers market this week?
Still no announcement on December stakes
Mod not taking over for months
No relaxing on Covid regulations
Will Kenilworth survive with no QP or Met crowd?

Dam of Freedom Seeker - was running in the Cape earlier in the year - not sure what has happened to her
So yes - looking for another one - and at these prices not impossible - but one has to have the viewpoint that spending money on a horse is like buying that set of golf clubs - and stable fees like your club membership - just more expensive, but the point is, buying a horse should be seen as an expensive hobby - and if you do get some money back, well and good
