Good arguments here for quite a few things. As far as couplings are concerned with more modern systems it would easily be possible to have two options in the P6 and the jackpot. Have two pools on each, one with couplings, one without. Might water down pools initially but will be worth the exercise over the longer term and end up with two strong pools or a clear preference of which to drop.
Also this thing about forcing the player to take a pick 3 or a double at least twice is foolish and should always be left open for the player to decide. Some like the large perm to go after outsiders, some like to play multiple times. Don't try and force players to play more, it causes frustration and often a lost punter to that specific bet or pool.

@LSU I agree fully.

The new company needs a very aggressive strategy, trying to be efficient with what they have ain't gonna cut it. They need to go for the bigger piece of the small pie.

The Tote needs to open from 7am to 7pm for those who want to place their bets before/after work.

The website currently closes at around 10pm, that needs to be scrapped it's an ATM why close it.

Computaform is not their core product, it's like a menu, fifty bucks is way too much. They are not in the business of selling books and websites.

Getting rid of the sporting post was another bad idea, how many punters went to the tote to buy SP only to end up taking a few bets. They need to have as many newspapers and books for their customers.

The tote makes it's money from gamblers, they need to have that written all over the company walls.

Thats pretty neat J. Never knew you could do that. What is the actual minimum bet guys? Know you have to take whatever you bet as a line twice but would most definitely look into J's suggestion.

Yes Hollywood and other bookies offer Pick 3's as well for percentages as well. In fact the Pick 3 has been very good to me. The biggest Pick 3 payout I have collected for a single unit is R17,000 odd. See attached, two Pick 3's perms taken for 50% collecting R4800 on Wednesday for Greyville. I have scooped the pool on numerous occassions.

Also note that Betxchange offers permutations where you can choose the races you want in any centre to make up an accumalator with multiple horses per leg for both Tote odds or Fixed odds.

I like pick 3's and doubles but the changes have reduced my appetite considerably. Hate it when I am forced into an amount that is not of my own determination. There are probably many that feel the same way. Thanks for that Naresh. Enjoy your weekend guys.

keniza999 wrote: I believe the tote should aggressively take on the bookies by offering every betting option offered on the books. Where else are they going to get customers?

They need to open a tote wherever they see a bookie shop. They have to increase their stuff so that when you walk into a branch there are separate terminals for horses, soccer and numbers.

If they think horse racing punters alone can sustain racing they are dreaming. Big money is spent on soccer and numbers, the tote needs to position itself best for that market.

Online is the future but right now the bookies shops are packed with customers daily.

The tote stuff should be trained to stop thinking like they are doing us a favour. They should be well trained and disciplined.

They need to service those tote terminals so that a betting slip goes through at once.

Their betting slips count venues 1-20 then skip to 25 yet they program venues on the skipped numbers.

We need power plugs so we can bring our devices.

"The tote staff....doing us a favour"...I agree 100% .

Hope so? There is clearly a lot of demand for it - The pools are great. As I said before, they need to introduce it as a constant again, and people will actually know to tune in for it and budget accordingly, and not do it at random and expect the pools to be great straight away.
