Rained all night. If they couldn’t race yesterday, no reason they should race today.

And rained very hard for most of last night...jockeys better protest before the meeting starts to save everyone the day...

The powers that be must be really chuffed with their efforts. Lets cut up Greyville they said unanimously and lets lay an all weather track so that we never lose a meeting again. What a great idea in theory. Now what have we got??? The best track in KZN sold off the next best cut in half and a poly that doesn't take rain ... great stuff lets all pat them on the back. Racing really needs this at the moment. And the SILENCE IS DEAFENING!!

.....and I was once of the opinion that a polytrack at PE was not a good idea....and that track has saved many a more meetings than Greyville poly will ever do.....and yes the rainfall on the KZN coast is much much higher than that of PE
but these tracks are supposed to be designed to drain and not retain water.....I remember a greyville meeting where water was pooling on the surface and the track had to be harrowed over and over to break the surface "matting" effect to get the water to drain....something amiss with the Greyville poly on the drainage and substrate composition that they cannot seem to get right....

Pretty shocked this meeting never went ahead, do we have the expertise to maintain an all-weather track?

hi All
There has been a lot of mild, steady rain in Durbs, hence safety first, abandoned.
Check the pic in the SP of MJB lying injured on his back,in normal conditions.
riding would have been detrimental for jocks in these adverse conditions.
As D Scott said, more time to prep for the next Poly.
Some 'research' for the avid punters.
appreciate any feedback on r2#1 last two runs

If you see the stipes report in the one race that was run, there wasnt any horses that pulled up lame or striding short aswell as there were no incidents report during the race which one hardly has in racing. I wonder how some of these jockeys would have survived 10-15 years ago where they raced in pouring rain on very heavy tracks. This is where we used to get certain horses that were mudlarks. Miss that racing

Doyen nobody is suggesting that they should race if its dangerous. The point is that they installed a poly to avoid losing meetings ( a supposedly all weather track) so far today there has not been much rain and yes we had afair bit over the last few days but the poly or the track manager or both have proved ineffective.
Agree Batman.. doesn't seem we will see any true mudlarks anymore.
