Mmm, I may have to retract! Trainer mate called me, told me I'm clueless. Says many horses being trained on painkillers, cumulative doses sometimes fudge the excretion times hence all the positives as the tests become more sensitive.

Tiny bottle Finadyne costs about R400 so you not gonna forget when you've given it or to whom.

Pirates,
True, all medication to be documented. Obviously in the case of each positive, that didn't happen.

I wondered what happens when the new trainer runs a recently purchased horse coming from another yard. Must open himself to possible positive test...

Somebody able to list all the trainers who have been caught with positives?
To my memory O.Ferraris nil but most top guys have been caught.
De Kock,Tarry,D.Ferraris definately but think Drier may be clear.
Who knows?

How long does it take for results ? can the test results be available the say in one day ? the reason why i am asking is if trainers could declare that treatment had been administered within say the last 14 days the horse could be presented for testing prior to running and if positive scratched thereby protecting the trainer owner and public from unnessecary loss.

Pre race testing takes place in Hong Kong and I think Singapore.
Not possible here as only one lab in I think JHB.
What should happen is that the NHA should take pre race blood samples on say Thursday. This would stop a lot of the S--T.as most horses on medication would then be positive. But of course for the NHA this would be to much like hard work.
Thet have to knpck off at lunchtime

It is so amusing reading some of these posts to actually realise how much HOGWASH some people talk and actually how little they know. If you dont know what you talking about rather KEEP YOUR MOUTHS SHUT. Everyone would sware that the world has come to an end! It is a regular occurance in the racing world. Shows you how many people are so too faced. When certain trainers do well they all sweet, the moment something goes wrong they all scatter like maingy dogs! I have one horse in the Howells yard and have had horses with him since the first day he took out his liscence. Our leading KZN trainer has not had a grade one winner for about six years ....how good is he with the stock he has and my trainer with the MODERATE stock he has still manages to turn out winners and grade ones at that. One should understand mistakes do happen. At least the man is facing the music like an honerable man, who knows how the horse got the muti, why could it not have been outside influences seeing that the vet never sold that paticular drug to the trainer over that period and its in the record books. Every trainer should know the withdrawl period and WHEN IN DOUBT PULL OUT. Scratch the horse its very simple. Duncan I have had the most success with you over the last ten years and will continue to support you no matter what and I know there are many other owners in your yard that are loyal and feel the same way too. As to the clever dicks ... this game will tame you.

Followe, what exactly is it that you consider to be hogwash, and why should anyone condone cheating (because racing horses on forbidden drugs is cheating)

Absolute of course it is cheating and no one should condone it MISTAKES DO HAPPEN especially when the window periods are misjudged. Hogwash, some of the posts and the things some people say is drivel, thats my personal opinion.

Follower, I agree with you on Duncan Howells. Top trainer, that at the worst made a mistake. He would definitly not so something like this on purpose.
