VAAL STRAIGHT 24/11/2020 FORMGUIDES, SELECTIONS PERMUTATIONS

by David Thiselton

RACE 1

NUMBTERNINETYNINE (13) is an effective front runner and this big, rangy sort is knocking on the door and he should be right there again. JACALAC (8) is capable of a strong finish and stayed on strongly for third from this same draw over this same course and distance last time. PURPLE MAGIC (9) stayed on for fourth over 1450m last time and could earn again here. IMPERIAL DUKE (11) is by Duke Of Marmalade out of a Caesour mare who finished second in a Grade 3 over 1800m and second in a Listed race over 1600m and who has produced a three-time winning sprinter and a moderate winner over 1950m. TRACK COMMANDER (16) is by Gimmethegreenlight out of a twice-winning Horse Chestnut mare who was rated a moderate 67. (David Thiselton 13-8-9-11-16)

RACE 2

PUTONTHEREDLIGHT (1) is distance suited and is the best treated at the weights in this Graduation Plate. ROCKTHEGLOBE (3) was well beaten by Putontheredlight over 1450m last June but is better than that and should have come on from his last run. INDY GO (5) has been in fair form and although he would prefer further he should be effective over this trip. (1-3-5)

RACE 3

Preview: SABRINA FAIRCHILD (13) was handy second time out over 1400m and stayed on for a fair third and being by Querari, who won a Group 1 over a mile and two furlongs, out of a Windrush mare who won twice over 1400m she should enjoy this 1600m trip. MODE (8) flew up last time to finish a close third over 1400m and beat Bebop by close to three lengths. BEBOP (11) did not have cover throughout before staying on to be beaten 3,25 lengths over 1400m last time and this What A Winter filly is a half-sister to July winner Heavy Metal so should enjoy the step up in trip. TRIPLE GODDESS (9) stayed on over 1000m and being by Willow Magic out of a maiden half-sister to Matchem Stakes winner Majestic Sun and to Listed winning stayer Sun City she has a chance of seeing out the trip. DUTCHESSBERNADETTE (12) found some support on debut and wasn’t disgraced after misbehaving in the stalls. FLOWER SEASON (2) can earn here if bouncing back to her best. (David Thiselton 13-8-11-9-12-2)

RACE 4

Preview: ROCKPAPERSCISSORS (3) stayed on well over 1800m last time and looks the one to beat. WILD HERITAGE (5) as beaten three lengths by Rockpaperscissors in that race and should be thereabouts again. ELECTRA FLYING (2) will be a big runner here if settling from a good draw as she cost herself any chance last time by pulling when caught momentarily wide. ROYAL SIEGE (6) is a long-time maiden but stayed on well over 1700m in his penultimate start and is well drawn over 300m further and has a shout under these handicap conditions. FORT ALADO (1) has a shout in this line up despite a wide draw. (David Thiselton 3-5-2-6-1)

RACE 5

Preview: ROUGE ALLURE (3) was staying on over 1600m last time behind Summer Pudding and is interesting stepped up to this trip for the first time. TAIHITIAN ORANA (4) was not disgraced last time off this mark and has won over this trip before. SNOW PALACE (2) is in and out but she should be able to lead in this small field and has the ability to win it. LILY BLUE (5) disappointed last time after a promising Highveld debut but she now has her third run after a layoff and could bounce back. JUST KIDDING (6) will have to bounce back from a poor run and POMANDER (1) has a bit weight over a trip which is still too sharp. (David Thiselton 3-4-2-5-6-1)

RACE 6

Preview: FSQUADRON (2) won his maiden well and has a good draw with Strydom up over a trip which will suit and off a reasonable merit rating. IN THE GAME (3) won well when stepped up to this trip last time and from pole position could follow up. FLY NORTH (5) is suited by the conditions in this classified stakes race as she gets a weight allowance and she can go close again from a good draw. PICADILLY SQUARE (13) ran well on Saturday and with a light weight can make another bold bid from the front. RABIA THE REBEL (4) won full of running on Saturday and can be considered again. (David Thiselton 2-3-5-13-4)

RACE 7

Preview: DOUBLE O’ EIGHT (4) has a fine chance here over an ideal trip. HOLY MAN (9) just has to carry one extra kilogram for his win last Thursday in which he beat Written In Stone by 1,25 lengths. RIVONIA BOULEVARD (6) should be right there if able to reproduce his last win, although he has a four point merit rated raise to overcome. VISIWAY (10) beat Double O’ Eight last time by a head but is now 7kg worse off if apprentice claims are included. EPIC DREAM (5) and ANGEL'S POWER (3) are both running off competitive merit ratings and could pop up. (David Thiselton 4-11-9-6-10-5-3-1)

RACE 8

Preview: FANTASTICAL (1) won well on debut and could be anything so she might well be up to her 87 rating. GET SET(7) could be a threat in this race. VISCOUNTESS VIVIEN (4) has dropped to a competitive merit rating. (David Thiselton 1-7-4)

Apparently the rail has been moved back to where it was before Thursday - will just have to wait and see where the best draws will be down the straight - horses drawn on the inside had a distinct advantage on Thursday

Have been looking at Putontheredlight

Opened around 4/10 and would appear it will be closer to evens, near the off.
Also plenty money for first fav number 99
Mode has Suger Coated Smile to worry about.

Good punting

If the draw favors the inside again, I think Twice the Act in the last is the right one; lunatic selection for the first 4 Kisumu - especially if an outside draw is an advantage

... and I also fancy Angel's Power a bit - but he has Holy Man to beat imo
