Deconstruction of Newmarket

Pretty much nearly all gone.
I reckon pretty shortly the wrecking balls will be in to take down the main buildings.
Only the shell and a few roof panels left.

Sad,the loss of what I believe was the fairest track in South Africa.. draws were hardly a factor. A horse could win from the front or from the back... and I loved the night racing !

just something that I dont understand about this Newmarket / Gosforth park is if they were both not viable then how is it possible that Clairwood/ Greyville
and Durbanville/Kenilworth manage.
Secondly which do you believe is next Clairwood / Durbanville?

Clairwood Park would be my guess.
However if we cancel more JHB meetings and move more Gauteng trainers to DBN we could keep the track and close Turfontein and just race at the Vaal and Randjies.

No point in selling Durbanville as it does not belong to the club. They could however do a deal with the Council and perhaps get a piece of the value as then it could be sold and the rates would be plenty into the coffers of the council

I don't believe that Turffontein should be sold or closed. The course itself is a good one. perhaps the local council should be prevailed upon to try and uplift the area... i know that is a longer term solution but it must start some where.
