PHUMELELA MEDIA RELEASE

SUBJECT: TAB Queen’s Plate payouts correct

DATE: Wednesday 13 January 2021

RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming

TAB payouts on Race 7, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, and the Pick 6 at Kenilworth last Saturday, were correct as declared.

Following customer queries about the TAB Win payout on the Queen’s Plate in particular and the carryover Pick 6 dividend, the betting system logs on Race 7 and the Pick 6 were thoroughly analysed and payouts re-audited.

The double check revealed nothing untoward and TAB assures customers the dividends are correct.

Trainer Justin Snaith’s charge, Dark Jet, won the Queen’s Plate at odds of 12-1, but paid R4.90 for a TAB Win as a result of sizeable bets on the colt shortly before the start. These wagers on Dark Jet collectively increased the TAB Win pool on the race by some 6%, but simultaneously resulted in the three-year-old’s payout dropping from R7.10 to R4.90.

The Pick 6, in which fields on average comprised less than nine runners, was boosted by a R3-million carryover and returned a dividend of R5,019. Tote favourites won three of the six legs.

Just like they thoroughly analyzed and re-audited the race card to get the name of the horse winning the Grade 1 race correct.

So they don't find it unusual that 6% of the pool was wagered just before the off on a 12 to 1 shot who just so happened to be the winner. Which right minded big punter bets on the tote knowing the odds will shorten to much less than the fixed odds available>

Any punter can punt in any way the punter chooses. Much ado about nothing.

You can strike a bet of R5000 on the tote to get a payout of R24900 in this instance.
You can only strike a bet of R800 at 12-1 to win R9600, minus tax with a bookie as their online limits are usually R10000.

I have to guess that Dark Jet and Jet Dark both have the same MR of 130 not to complicate matters 😎

Lets consider the punter ( you would have to also guess that this person is wearing blue and white) part of the elite and a supporter of the tote.
I have no problem with this as we ALL know that tote bets are better for the game than a bookie strike.

Considering above this punter is taking a large bet and we have to assume that the person is highly educated?
So the question remains:
Who in their right mind which I am sure has racing links, would punt a horse at 7/1 with a tote knowing that the amount of winning tickets would increase, and their payout would be drastically reduced.

The books have 14/1, 12/1, 10/1 etc at various limits for you to make a substantial bet .

However we thank this gent or lady for their generous contribution to the game.

Good Punting

Perhaps he was a first-time punter?
Perhaps he was blocked by all the other bookies? Doubt it.
Perhaps he was trying to do a coup to receive a better dividend on something else? Doubt it, his 6% contribution to the pool would have raised the dividends by only 1% or so on each of the balance of runners.
I think he was a “virgin” punter and congrats for his win.
Does anyone know the win pool?

Ok, so perhaps I am the only conspiracy theorist. Just to put this out there as a software engineer. Here is a possible scenario.

in any computer run business at least 1 person has the superuser password. In this case I am making a reference to the case in the US win the 90's using the same software the tote uses. The "punter" makes several winning bets in this case eg. R5000, R6000, R3000 so all the money is in the pool. As soon as the result is known, the superuser can then change the selection on the ticket to the winning horse. Note that this does not change the to pool total and the time of the bet is still before the off.

Just a theory of how it could be done

The pool reached 217k. The next race the pool reached 210k. The race that Queen Supreme won the pool reached 318k.

This makes me think other jurisdictions/countries was punting into the pools. Funny enough the French Tote was not punting into the pools. The last month or so they covered a lot of meetings from South Africa.

We will never know - but to me it does seem that this type of thing is happening more often these days - so not only does the astute punter need to monitor the fixed-odds prices in the 5 minutes before the off, but also the tote - of course many of these 'coups' go haywire - but some are landed

......when I saw the tote payout thought I'd missed a trick and got Snaithed with the rest of the racing world.....but one does not have to look too far as the polo playing connection in Plett must have not been able to find a bookie there....

Interesting to note that in the P6 provided by the Snaith stable with their runner comments, they did not include Jet Dark.
